SUMMARY:The person in this position plans, coordinates, and supervises activities of workers engaged in repair, inspection, and installation of systems, apparatus, and components of railroad signaling systems, communication systems, and highway traffic-control devices by performing the following duties personally or through subordinate employees.RESPONSIBILITIES:Supervise the maintenance of signaling and traffic control devices; analyze operational malfunctioning with testing devices to locate, diagnose, and ascertain repairs to be madeSupervise the installation of railroad signaling equipment and highway traffic-control devices according to layout plans and/or FRA regulationsPlan work assignments and manage materials and schedules for signal-maintenance projectsInvestigate accidents and issue restorative work ordersProvide technical assistance and training for subordinate employeesManage written records of all tests, inspections, and repairs per-formed; ensure conformance to all company, state, and federal regulationsCarry out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the or-gani-za-tion's policies and applicable lawsDirectly supervise employees in a maintenance sectionTrain employees; plan, assign, and direct work; appraise per-for-mance; and address complaints and resolve problemsManage other projects and perform other duties as assignedREQUIRED SKILLS AND/OR EXPERIENCE:Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, and governmental reg-u-lationsAbility to write reports, business correspondence, and pro-cedure manualsAbility to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers, and the gen-eral publicAbility to work with mathematical concepts, such as probability and statistical inference and fundamentals of plane and solid geometry and trigo-nometry; ability to apply concepts such as fractions, per-cent-ages, ratios, and proportions to practical situationsAbility to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions; ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical in-structions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several ab-stract and concrete variablesMust have thorough working knowledge of FRA regulations governing rail-road-signal and train-control systemsProficiency in Micro-soft Office (Excel, Word, Access, and Outlook)Ability to stand, reach with hands and arms, talk or hear, and taste or smell; ability to walk; sit; use hands to finger, handle, or feel objects, tools, or controls; and climb or balanceAbility to lift and/or move up to one hundred poundsSpecific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, dis-tance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focusREQUIRED EDUCATION AND/OR CREDENTIALS:High school diploma or general education degree (GED), associate degree, or equivalent from two year college or technical school in electrical field; or high school diploma or general education degree (GED), and five years of signal-maintenance and signal-construction work experience; or an equivalent combination of education and experienceCDL (no less than Class B)This position is employed by the specific entity set forth in the job posting.Genesee & Wyoming Inc. and its subsidiary companies do not discriminate in employment on the basis of race, color, religion, sex (including pregnancy and gender identity), national origin, political affiliation, sexual orientation, marital status, disability, genetic information, age, membership in an employee organization, retaliation, parental status, military service, or any other protected status under federal, state or local laws.
