Job Summary: The Assistant Bread Baker and Pastry Cook is responsible for preparing a variety of breads, pastries, and desserts for Maes Market and Cafe. This role involves mixing, kneading, shaping, and baking bread, as well as creating a range of pastries and desserts from scratch. The ideal candidate will have an introductory background in baking, a creative flair for pastry creation, and a commitment to maintaining the highest standards of food quality and presentation. Key Responsibilities: Bread Baking: Prepare and bake a variety of breads, including sourdough, baguettes, rolls, and specialty loaves. Follow established recipes and production schedules to ensure consistency and quality. Monitor the baking process, adjusting temperatures and times as needed to achieve the perfect bake. Pastry Cooking: Prepare a range of pastries, desserts, and baked goods, including croissants, muffins, cakes, cookies, and tarts. Decorate and finish pastries and desserts to a high standard of presentation. Quality Control: Ensure all baked goods meet Mae's Market and Cafe's quality standards. Maintain a clean and organized kitchen and workspace, adhering to all health and safety regulations. Qualifications: High school diploma or equivalent; culinary or baking degree is a plus. Minimum of 1 year of experience in bread baking and pastry cooking in a professional kitchen or bakery. Basic knowledge of baking techniques, ingredients, and equipment. Creativity and passion for baking and pastry arts. Excellent attention to detail and commitment to quality. Ability to work early morning shifts and stand for extended periods. Strong organizational and time management skills. Ability to lift up to 50 pounds.
