Primary Purpose:Help mechanics perform routine repairs and maintenance on all vehicles. Qualifications:Education/Certification:High school diploma or GEDClear and valid Texas commercial driver's license with Passenger (P) and School Bus (S) endorsementsSpecial Knowledge/Skills:Must be 18 years of ageAbility to pass U.S. Department of Transportation alcohol and drug tests and annual physical examAbility to complete required bus driver safety trainingAbility to follow written and verbal instructionsAbility to use maps and Global Positioning Systems (GPS) to follow routes and locate addresses Ability to manage student behaviorAbility to communicate effectively with othersAbility to operate busASE Certification preferredExperience:Experience in minor vehicle repair and maintenancePay Grade AUX 5Major Responsibilities and Duties:Maintenance and RepairsPerform major and minor mechanical repairs, preventative maintenance, diagnostics, and inspections on all district vehicles in a timely and efficient manner and without supervision. Maintain accurate, up-to-date preventive maintenance records.Rebuild, replace, or repair major vehicle components, assemblies, and systems including engines, transmissions, suspensions, electrical, and cooling systems.Estimate time and materials required to perform major repairs.Assign work to vehicle mechanics and mechanic assistants and inspect completed work for quality.Help train mechanics and mechanic assistants.Safety6. Follow established safety procedures and techniques to perform job duties including lifting and climbing. Operate tools, equipment, and machinery according to prescribed safety procedures. 7. Ensure shop, equipment, and tools are in safe operating condition. 8. Correct unsafe conditions in work area and promptly report any conditions that are not immediately correctable to supervisor. 9. Follow district safety protocols and emergency procedures.Other10. Record use of gas and mileage for buses daily. 11. Operate buses and vehicles as needed, including driving buses into shop area for repairs, and driving buses on student routes and field trips.Equipment Used:Automotive diagnostic equipment, wheel balancing equipment, tire repairing equipment, small hand tools, drill, drill press, grinder, air-powered tools, welding torch, torque wrench, jack and lift equipment.
