Preceptor, Transportation Innovation Center Department: CDL Training Programs Location: Transportation Center Reports To: Dir, Transportation Center Recruitment Type: External/Internal Requisition ID: req5451 Employment Type: Administration and Professionals Union Position: Non-Union Work Schedule: M-F - 1:00pm - 10:00pm Number of Openings: 1 Job Description: SUMMARY Responsible for a full range of program support for both the CDL Training Programs, and the State Driver Testing Center. Provide hands on CDL Training as a State Licensed CDL Instructor, and support the State Driver Testing Center as a State Certified Examiner. Provide a full range of support for the Transportation Innovation Center. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS * Responsible for supporting the CDL Training program in the training of CDL students, in any area of instruction * Support the State CDL Testing Center as a State Certified Driving Examiner * Provides advice, guidance and feedback to CDL students in the CDL Training program * Provide advice, guidance and feedback to Test candidates in the Driver Testing Center * Reinforces instruction to both CDL students, and Driver Testing Center candidates by utilizing a variety of learning modalities to help improve the student, and testing candidate's outcomes * Assists with the records maintenance of the Driver Testing Center outcomes * Provides a full range of program support for all programs within the Transportation Innovation Center * Provides formal CDL training instruction as needed to cover or support the CDL Training Specialist during absences, or for any State Examiners absence * Participates in program and division committees as needed * Responsible for the maintenance of accurate student records, and Driver Testing Center candidate test scores * Performs other duties as assigned REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE/TRAINING * Bachelor's Degree in a related field * Significant related experience may substitute for education * Minimum of five years of demonstrated verifiable professional CDL Class "A" driving experience in all weather conditions * Must have current CDL Class "A" license with all endorsements except Hazardous Materials, or be prepared to obtain any required endorsements * Must be certified by the State of Ohio as a CDL Examiner or be willing to obtain certification * Must be certified by the State of Ohio as a Class D Examiner or be willing to obtain certification * Must be a licensed Ohio CDL Instructor or be willing to obtain certification * Verifiable clean driving record with no more than two (2) points and/or one (1) moving violation in the previous three years from application date * No record of Operating Vehicle While Intoxicated (OVI), Driving Under the Influence (DUI) or Reckless Operation convictions in the past ten (10) years * Must meet the College's insurability requirements * Must pass a Department of Transportation (DOT) physical and drug screening examination * Must not have any felony convictions within the previous ten years from application date; must be capable of passing Ohio BCI and FBI background checks * Demonstrated experience effectively making decisions that have major implications on the strategy, management and operations within a department * Demonstrated effectiveness in a role requiring dynamic and abstract problem-solving methods in adaptive situations KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS and ABILITIES * Possess comprehensive knowledge of CDL training theories, concepts and practices with the ability to apply in complex, difficult and/or unprecedented situations as it pertains to the departmental focus * Demonstrated ability to identify mechanical and maintenance problems, and recommend appropriate solutions * Possess strong organizational and time-management skills * Possess excellent written, verbal and interpersonal communication skills * Ability to promote student success * Ability to effectively complete work assignments independently * Demonstrated intermediate project management skills * Demonstrated intermediate proficiency with Microsoft Outlook, Word, Excel, and PowerPoint * Ability to confidentially and discreetly handle subject matters requiring privacy and sensitivity * Ability to collaborate, persuade, gain cooperation and acceptance of ideas on significant projects * Ability to develop and maintain relationships with key contacts to enhance work flow and quality * Ability to research and analyze issues and develop solutions * Ability to work independently with accuracy and great attention to detail * Possess sensitivity to appropriately respond to the needs of a diverse population COMPETENCIES CRITICAL COMPETENCIES * Service Focus * Collaboration * Communication VERY IMPORTANT COMPETENCIES * Quality of Work * Adaptability IMPORTANT COMPETENCIES * Time Utilization * Continuous Improvement PHYSICAL DEMANDS/WORKING CONDITIONS (The demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.
