This position assists with park and field maintenance at the facilities that host athletic programs such as baseball, softball and soccer. Employees can report to a variety of different locations including the Rotary Sportsplex or Dunnellon KP Hole. Responsible for performing manual work maintaining parks, athletic facilities, boat ramps, natural resources, and other governmental facilities, collecting and accounting for fees, and enforcing parks rules and regulations for all County owned/operated parks. ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS Park Services Worker I * Performs quality customer service. * Cleans and maintains parks to ensure that they are free of littler and debris. * Collects money and fees as needed. * Performs routine safety checks, which may include equipment and playgrounds. * Involves physical labor while conducting park repairs, cleaning and maintenance of grounds, and facilities, including restrooms. * Operates ground maintenance equipment including mowers, tractors, ATVs, hand-operated equipment, etc. * Reports problems to Park Rangers and all applicable law enforcement agencies. * Maintains athletic facilities and assists with natural resource management and compliance with environmental regulations as needed and/or as applicable. * Provides excellent customer service to members of the general public and other County employees. Personal contact occurs with other employees of the unit, employees of other departments in the County, citizens, and customers of the department. Service is provided in person or by phone contact. * Implements the organization's guiding principles and core values. * Performs other related job duties as assigned. Park Services Worker II Includes all work functions as Park Services Worker I plus: * Performs a daily audit and balance for the day's receipts. * Assists Park Rangers and law enforcement agencies with addressing problems. Park Services Worker III Includes all work functions as Park Services Worker II plus: * Assists with supervision of daily operations in assigned area. * Performs a variety of office duties. * Coordinates and performs field management and other program activities. SUPERVISION Park Services Worker I: May require some supervisory responsibility. May be responsible for directly supervising temporary employees, trustees, and/or community service workers. Park Services Worker II: Requires some supervisory responsibility. May be responsible for directly supervising Park Services Worker I, temporary employees, trustees, and community service workers. Park Services Worker III - Assists with supervision of daily operations in assigned area. Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities: Language Skills Park Services Worker I through III: * Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. * Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. * Ability to speak effectively before customers or employees of organization. * Ability to effectively present information to the general public and customers. Mathematical Skills Park Services Worker I: * Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. * Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent. Park Services Worker II through III: Includes all required mathematical skills of Worker I, plus: * Ability to calculate figures and amounts to such as discounts, interest, commissions, proportions, percentages, area, circumference, and volume. * Ability to apply concepts of basic algebra and geometry. Problem-Solving Ability Park Services Worker I through III: * Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form. * Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations. * Ability to exercise judgment regarding use of equipment, tools, or materials. Specialized Skills and Abilities Park Services Worker I and II: * Knowledge of grounds maintenance work and park operations. * Knowledge of the rules and regulations, including the hazards and safety requirements pertaining to the public use of County parks, athletic facilities, boat ramps, and other government facilities. * Knowledge of general cleaning techniques of facilities and methods and procedures used in general housekeeping. * Skills in the use of a ten-key calculator and cash register. * Ability to access, input, and retrieve information on the computer. * Ability to deal effectively and courteously with members of the general public. * Ability to remain calm in stressful situations. * Ability to take a teamwork approach to the job by cooperating with others, offering to help others when needed, and considering larger organization or team goals rather than individual concerns. Includes the ability to build a constructive team spirit where team members are committed to the goals and objectives of the team. Specialist III: Includes all required specialized skills and abilities of Park Services Worker I and II, plus: * Knowledge of the proper and safe use of automotive and power equipment used in facility maintenance and OSHA standards and requirement. * Ability to plan, coordinate, and assign tasks to work crews. * Ability to use independent judgment and discretion in directing a work crew. * Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with members of the general public and other agencies. * Ability to conduct routine inspections and identify and investigate problems, as well as communicate findings effective verbally and in writing. Ability to prepare reports and enforce rules and regulations. PHYSICAL DEMANDS The work is heavy work which requires exerting up to 100 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 50 pounds of force frequently, and/or up to 20 pounds of force constantly to move objects. While performing the duties of this job, the employee will occasionally be required to stand, walk, sit, use hands to finger, handle, or feel, reach with hands and arms, climb or balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl, talk hear, and smell. WORK ENVIRONMENT Work is performed primarily in various indoor and outdoor environments. While performing the duties of this job, the employee will occasionally be exposed to moving mechanical parts, toxic or caustic chemicals, and risk of electrical shock; and will regularly be exposed to outdoor weather conditions.
