Job DescriptionThe Senior Manager, Systems Engineer individual partners with the CVS IT/Infrastructure team and across the TPA and Payer Solutions department to understand the technical requirements specific to the design, maintenance, and security of our IT infrastructure. This position is responsible to determine the design, configuration, operation and maintenance of network infrastructure and computer systems leveraging cloud as well as traditional technologies - including hardware, software, web portals, internet and intranet connections, firewalls, servers, and security - that allow the company infrastructures to function. They consider the size, resources, data needs, desired user experience and budget required to accomplish the projects that the technical infrastructure must support. They will work with a team who is responsible for business-critical systems where availability, reliability and stability are essential. They will help to ensure that all solutions of application and business issues are secure, compliant, and adhere to the minimum-security baselines set forth by CVS Health. This is an individual contributor position and not a manager of people.Pay RangeThe typical pay range for this role is:Minimum: 115,000Maximum: 230,000Please keep in mind that this range represents the pay range for all positions in the job grade within which this position falls. The actual salary offer will take into account a wide range of factors, including location.Required Qualifications- 10+ years of experience in the Information Technology (IT) field.- 5+ years of experience working as a technical lead including expertise in design, operations, and system levels- Responsible for designing and implementing short and long-term strategic solutions for scaling and optimizing systems and software. - Provide expertise and assistance to other IT personnel including software teams, network engineers, DevOps engineers and maintenance/support teams. Conduct research on new technologies to help create and develop plans for investing in such systems that will ensure cost effectiveness, scalability, and extensibility.- Responsible to design, create and monitor the implementation of end-to-end integrated systems with an emphasis on a balanced and focused development and maintenance of the system to ensure the system's performance or reliability. Review new and existing system designs and make recommendations for improving or altering the systems. - Create project plans, diagrams and other architectural/design documentation needed to communicate, implement, and test/validate the desired systems design, changes, and modifications to the technical and management teams. This includes consulting with department heads and end-users to gather and document requirements and dependencies; develop and execute test plans to check technical performance and report findings; make recommendations for improvements; develop policies for standardizing systems.- Must have leadership experience with excellent communication and interpersonal skills to be able to properly relay requirements to all levels of management and staff, keep engineering teams on task with project deadlines and provide guidance on industry best practices. Ability to lead project status meetings with implementation teams, and provide weekly updates to management on progress.- Ability to collaborate and participate in activities to make certain there is knowledge and process improvement. Help to lead forums to innovate and introduce new ideas resulting in optimization of resources.Preferred QualificationsThe Senior Manager, Systems Engineer must not only possess technical leadership but should have organization and conceptualization skills. They can easily engage in abstract thinking and logical reasoning; can self-evaluate and adapt efficiently utilizing the following skills: - Experience in a technical lead or architect role using service and hosting solutions such as private/public cloud IaaS, PaaS and SaaS platforms- Proven experience developing strategic plans/projects for highly scalable and secure platforms and taking those to successful completion.- Experience with migration of legacy architecture stacks to more modern infrastructure and network practices (ex. migration from on-premises to cloud-based infrastructure, support CI/CD automation and release structures, containerization, and virtualization).- Solid understanding of information processing fundamentals and best practices- Expertise in moving from a thought to analyzing, conceptualizing, and driving a solution forward- Experience managing and guiding other engineers and developers as well as coordination of team with product owners and internal stakeholders.- Experience working in SAFe Scaled Agile, Scrum, Kanban, and Waterfall- Excellent written and verbal communication skills- Experience introducing technology trends, standards, and products research- Solid track record in prioritizing and executing tasks when under extreme pressure- Experience providing guidance and leadership to novice systems engineers- Proven experience identifying, analyzing, and resolving system problems- Familiarity and expertise in a variety of programs and platforms needed for network and systems engineering such as Ansible, Docker, Kubernetes, and Azure Dev Ops.EducationBachelor's degree in areas such as computer science, engineering, information systems or equivalent work experience.Business OverviewBring your heart to CVS Health Every one of us at CVS Health shares a single, clear purpose: Bringing our heart to every moment of your health.
