Senior Center Support StaffSenior Day Program, The Salvation Army, Syracuse Area ServicesFull-Time, Hourly, Non-Exempt with Benefits!Two New Openings, Immediately Hiring!The Senior Day Program for The Salvation Army of the Syracuse Area is hiring for the role of Senior Center Support Staff. We seek individuals who enjoy working with Seniors, that are dedicated, hard working and want to have fun while at work! This is a rewarding career where a smile is on your face at the end of your work day. Overview: This position requires you to assist our Seniors on a daily basis while they enjoy their day at the Senior Day Program. You are responsible for greeting them when they arrive, help they to get settled for the day, serve breakfast, play games and coordinate activities. At the end of the day, you will help them to get ready to be transported home and complete documentation that is required on each of the Senior clients.Operational FunctionsEnsures the Day Program Room is ready for receiving the participants each day.Reports all changes in the participant condition to the Program Manager or Case Managers.Reports all observed or reported accidents and incidents to the Program Manager immediately.Maintains the cleanliness and order of the program and storage rooms.Sets up the room for the program activities.Encourages/assists participants to participate in activities appropriate to their needs, desires and capabilities.Assists with the program activities daily.Assists participants with preparing for their return home.Upon conclusion of activities, assist with clean up and organizes the program area at the end of the day.Attend outings with Participants in the community.Planning/Organizing Activities:Assist Program Manager with planning of creative and resident-focused recreational activities and special events.Offers suggestions and comments on program performance/efficiency.Personal Care Functions (per participant care plans)Follow established policies concerning exposure to blood/body fluids.Provide some or total assistance with personal care tasks.Provide some or total assistance with mobility tasks using DME and/or Gate Belt.Provide some or total assistance with transfer, positioning and range of motion tasks.May assist clients with transfers from chair to wheelchair.Assist clients with sitting and/or standing.Food Service/Nutrition Functions (per participant care plans)Prepare participants for meals and snacks (take to bathroom, wash hands, position at tables).Remain knowledgeable of dietary restrictions for participants.Serve food trays.Assist with feeding.Report changes in eating habits to Program Manager.Keep water pitchers clean, filled with fresh water and within easy reach of participants, encouraging water throughout the day.Perform after meal care (remove trays, assist with cleaning hands, face, teeth and clothing).Documentation FunctionsRecords daily progress notes according to current documenting procedures (manual/electronic medical records etc).Track and record supporting notes as required by program.OtherTransport participants to and from program location in 12 passenger van.Assist to direct volunteers and students during activities.Maintain good communication skills and rapport with team members and various departments and informing supervisor of any problems or concerns.Attend staff meetings.High School Diploma OR GED is required.Valid NYS Driver LicenseSix-Twelve months of relateable work and/or internship experiencePC and general Clerical skills are needed.Ability to multi-task in a fast pace ever changing work environment.Equal Opportunity Employer: The Salvation Army is an Equal Opportunity Employer and committed to providing a respectful environment for all applicants and employees that is free from unlawful discrimination or harassmentbased on age, race, color, religion, sex, national origin, marital status, disability, citizenship, sexual orientation, gender identity, gender expression, or any other characteristic protected by law.
