Cost Accountant

In this role, you will be responsible for analyzing production, margin, and cost data on a monthly basis, providing management with up-to-date and reliable financial insights to drive business decisions. You will be tasked with building and enhancing reports and financial models to improve efficiency, clarity, and adaptability to evolving business needs. The ideal candidate will have strong communication skills and be able to effectively collaborate with local management, corporate departments, auditors, and external stakeholders.Responsibilities:What you will do:Expense and Cost Center Reporting- Review and analyze account and statement level variances- Create and maintain effective cost center reporting- Compare results and trends with other OmniSource divisionsMonth End Closing- Prepare and review month end reports, journal entries and financial statements- Assist with inventory evaluations and control- Review and analyze inventory and margin reports, conduct research and perform analytical studies regarding cost analyses and profitabilityFixed assets accounting and analysisForecasting and budgetingSpecial projectsOther duties as assignedReport fraudulent activityReport all accidents and injuries immediatelyAbide by employee handbookCommitment to safety through actions and behaviorsQualifications:What we look for:Required4-year Accounting or Finance degreeExperience with month end closings and reconciling general ledger accountsStrong written and verbal communication skillsProficient in Microsoft Excel and WordCan-do approach and ability to excel in a high volume task environmentExcellent organizational, problem solving and time management skillsFlexibility to travel to other yards and Corporate office as needed (10-25% of the month)Comfortable working safely in both office and scrap yard environmentsAbility to handle sensitive information in a confidential mannerSelf-directed team player dedicated to the success of the organization3+ years relevant accounting work experienceCPA, MBA, CMA or working toward obtainingExperience with SAI, JDE, RIMAS and Microsoft AccessPreferred3+ years relevant accounting work experienceCPA, MBA, CMA or working toward obtainingExperience with SAI, JDE, RIMAS and Microsoft AccessBenefits:Omni offers competitive compensation and a full benefits package including: Medical, Dental, Vision, Employee Stock Purchase Plan, Bonus, Vacation and 401K.If you are a proactive and driven professional with a passion for cost accounting, we encourage you to apply and become a key player in our financial team! #GLD02202025Steel Dynamics, Inc., and all affiliated entities are equal opportunity employers.
