*Job Title* :Manager Nursing -EMERGENCY DEPARTMENT*Job Location* :CARROLLTON, TX*Employee Type* :Full Time*Shift* :Day*Educational Qualification* :BSN*Job Description* :*Job Summary*The nurse manager is responsible for creating and sustaining a healthy work environment for staff which fosters excellent professional nursing practice, shared decision-making, interdisciplinary teamwork and collaboration resulting in positive patient and staff outcomes. The manager supervises all nursing and unit-based personnel in the department in order to provide a safe, caring environment for patient/family and staff. The manager plans, develops, implements, evaluates and monitors policies/procedures, budgets, the allocation of resources, continuous quality improvement initiatives, educational programs and shared governance/shared leadership councils to achieve departmental and organizational goals and objectives. Provides direct bedside nursing care when necessary for age-specific patient population.*Essential Functions and Responsibilities*_The following duties and responsibilities generally reflect the expectations of this position but are not intended to be all-inclusive._Manages and directs the operations and delivery of patient care within budgetary, staffing and regulatory guidelines, using evidence-based practice.Professional Practice EnvironmentEngages supervisors and staff in the development and implementation of departmental goals and objectives/strategic plan for area of responsibility.Creates, fosters and sustains a healthy work environment which supports evidence-based nursing practice, nursing research and scholarly activities.Ensures that staff have a voice in decisions that impact their practice and work environment by establishing and supporting shared decision-making/shared governance structures and processes.Facilitates the professional development of staff, including clinical and leadership expertise, through role modeling, teaching, evaluating and coaching/mentoring.Ensures that staff are well-informed by communicating new/revised protocols, policies and procedures, guidelines and standards to staff in a timely manner.Ensures that staff members maintain competency based on identified standards of practice for patient population.Provides direct bedside nursing care as needed for age-specific patient population within areas of responsibility.Quality, Evidence-based Practice and ResearchProactively identifies, plans, implements, evaluates and monitors performance-improvement opportunities that promote changes in nursing practice by maintaining current knowledge in nursing research, evidence-based clinical and leadership practice, patient care delivery models and work redesign.Systematically analyzes and evaluates the quality and effectiveness of nursing practice based on a variety of indicators: nursing-sensitive, human resources (HR), Center for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS), Joint Commission (JC), Institute for Healthcare Improvement (IHI), National Patient Safety Goals, National Quality Forum (NQF) and other national benchmarks.Uses change management principles, facilitates practice changes through utilization of evidence-based practice and research findings by nursing leaders and staff.Ensures the delivery of age-specific and developmentally-appropriate patient care in accordance with established guidelines and scope of duty or practice for patients served.Caring Practices/Service ExcellenceCreates and sustains a compassionate, supportive, safe and therapeutic environment for patients/families and staff.Fosters patient, family and professional relationships that are reciprocal, synergistic and characterized by mutual respect and professional growth.Analyzes patterns and trends from departmental patient care conferences, interdisciplinary rounds and outcome data and implements changes to ensure best caring practices and outcomes for patients/families and staff.Uses knowledge and expertise to identify potential problems and/or resources for patients/families and staff.Champions service excellence initiatives and ensures consistent implementation by staff.Cultivates an environment that supports the professional and personal growth of nursing leaders and staff.
