Every employee takes a person-centered approach that exemplifies the ICARE values (Integrity, Compassion, Accountability, Respect, and Excellence) through empathic communication and partnerships between all persons.Job DescriptionPurpose of position:Under the guidance and supervision of the Director of Nursing, the A.D.N is responsible for planning, organizing, directing, coordinating, and evaluating the quality of care rendered in the Obstetrical Service (Labor and Deliver and Mother-Baby Units). The A.D.N. has the authority and responsibility of managing the units in order to guarantee quality of care for every patient assigned to the unit and is held accountable by the use of the nursing process. They are accountable for adhering to established policies, procedures, and ensuring that standards of nursing practice are in alignment with organizational, regulatory and nationally recognized professional standards and current research.Responsibilities:Coordinates patient care by collaborating with the multidisciplinary team.Conducts risk assessment to adverse events.Ensures that safety management issues are appropriately addressed.Attends regularly scheduled meetings and conducts staff meeting at defined intervals to share information.Provides for and ensures that the patient's family receive exceptional care and services.Conducts environmental rounds to assure compliance of Infection Control and Safety Policies.Acts as a coach, resource and change agent by suggesting new innovative approaches based on evidenced-based nursing practices.Assist in scheduling of assigned nursing personnel to ensure appropriate and adequate levels of staffing on all shifts.Recommends personnel actions such as hiring, transfer, termination, corrective action and participating in employee performance appraisals.Fosters an environment that supports the utilization of nursing research.Participates in simulation programs to enhance staff knowledge and clinical skills.Collaborates with educators to assess the educational needs of staff on an on-going basis and identify individual knowledge and/or technical gaps and recommending programs and/or learning plans to close the gaps in clinical knowledge.Assist with scheduling of staff educational programs.Participates in the evaluation of nursing practice and makes recommendations for developmental/revision of nursing standards.Assess and evaluate employees to promote staff developmentMinimum Qualifications1. Licensed and currently registered to practice as a professional nurse in New York State, plus (2) or (3), below.2. Masters Degree in Nursing Administration, Education, Clinical Specialty or equivalent field and five years of satisfactory nursing experience, of which three years shall have been in a supervisory or teaching capacity; or a Baccalaureate Degree in Nursing and six years of satisfactory nursing experience, four years of which shall have been in a supervisory or teaching capacity.3. A satisfactory equivalent of education and experience.
