The Lead Payroll Specialist is responsible for processing complex, multi-state payrolls accurately and timely and responding to payroll-related inquiries from employees, managers, and external agencies.Location: 10024 Investment Drive, Suite 200 Knoxville, TN 37932Hourly Pay Range: $20.43 - $25.48Essential Duties and ResponsibilitiesAll aspects of payroll processing, including data entry, reconciling payroll records, processing adjustmentsProcess multi-state payrolls accurately and in a timely mannerProcesses withholdings, deductions, wage garnishments, or other special payroll components such as exemptions, and insuranceRespond to payroll related inquiries from employees, managers, and external agencies timely and professionallyWork closely with HR, IT and other departments as neededCompile and submit payroll reports such as 401k, tax withholding, and other reports as neededResearch and maintain solid knowledge of payroll laws, regulations, and best practicesProactively work to improve processes, promote efficiency and accuracyTrains staff on payroll processes, procedures, and reports; provides information and instruction to personnel regarding procedures and methods involved in processing payrollWork with auditors as neededPerforms other duties as assignedEducation/Experience/Licenses/Certifications:High School diploma required, college a plusMinimum of 3 years of experience in multi-state payroll processing and customer serviceExperience in the transportation industry preferredWorkday and/or TMW software experience preferredSkills Required:Ability to manage confidential informationStrong leadership and training skillsExcellent verbal and written communication skillsStrong computer literacy including Microsoft Office applicationsExceptional multitasking, organizational skills, and analytical skillsAble to work effectively with minimal supervisionStrong knowledge of multi-state payroll, tax, and wage regulationsExcellent attention to detailSelf-motivated learnerPhysical Demands/Working Conditions:Normal Hours: Monday - Friday 8am - 5pmAfter hours and weekend work, although rare, may be requiredHighway Transport is a tanker trucking company that has been family-owned since 1948.
