Understanding of the concepts of aging and the needs and concerns of the elderly. Knowledge and/or experience working with those in various stages of dementia. Basic computer experience preferred.Essential Job Functions Provides direct care to residents including but not limited to the following:Administers medications and/or treatments for residents on unit, adhering to facility policies and procedures and skill level of personnel.Follows specifically written physician's orders.Organizes/sets-up med carts; delivers medications to appropriate residents.Administers oral, topical, suppository medications, as well as eye and ear drops.Follows all pharmacy and drug administration policies and procedures.Adheres to specific administration requirements (ac, pc, etc.) as well as a correct time of administration.Verifies start and stop dates on orders before administering.Documents all medications administered according to facility policies and procedures.Inventories controlled drugs by counting medications at the start and end of each shift.Assists with proper disposition of drugs.Implements restorative nursing measure, correct aseptic techniques, and other infection control measures when providing nursing care.Is accountable for all care and treatment provided for an assigned group of residents.Coordinates, supervises and evaluates resident care.Supervises nursing assistants.Make daily rounds visiting each resident frequently to monitor resident condition and responses to treatment.Assures that goals and approaches are current on the resident care plan and are conveyed to and implemented by the nursing staff.Observes direct care administered by staff ensuring safe effective care is given in a timely manner as well as completion of other assigned duties.Supervises and assures completion of daily and weekly documentation in the resident medical record, resident care plan and other required forms.Receives and processes doctors' orders as required.Communicates with nursing and other departments and services.Gives oral instructions about nursing care and end-of-shift reports.Records information on changes in condition new orders, incidents, etc.Informs the Director of Nursing, attending physician, sponsor, and other appropriate staff regarding changes in resident physical, emotional or behavioral status.Initiates and contributes to the plan of care for residents, according to resident needs and policy, in order to promote continuity of care from admission through discharge or transfer.Lutheran Life Villages is an Equal Opportunity Employer.
