School Counselor

MARSHFIELD R-1 SCHOOL DISTRICT JOB DESCRIPTION COUNSELORS QUALIFICATIONS: Master's Degree in guidance and counseling. Level appropriate, valid Missouri Certificate in guidance and counseling Valid Missouri Psychological Examiner's Certificate preferred. Updated transcript of college credit. TERMS OF CONTRACT: 205 days (individual contracts may be adjusted by mutual agreement of the counselor and the board of education), compensation per salary schedule. REPORT TO: Building principal PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES: Essential job skills/knowledge and abilities: Become informed concerning rules, policies and regulations of the school and interpret and carry out regulations in daily programs. Develop effective professional relationships with students, parents, and staff. Implement the building level guidance curriculum. Guide and counsel individual students and groups through the development of educational and career plans. Counsel small groups and individual students with problems. Consult with teachers, staff and parents regarding the developmental needs of students. Complete assigned diagnostic work for students. Refer students with severe problems to appropriate school/community resources in consultation with parents. Participate in, coordinate and/or conduct activities, which contribute to the effective operation of the school. Participate in the evaluation and revision of the district guidance program as needed. Maintain confidentiality of pertinent data/information. Pursue professional growth. Assist in development of student enrollment and class schedules. Other duties as assigned by the school principal. EVALUATION: Formative and summative evaluation per board of education policy. Frequency will depend upon length of employment and other factors relating to job performance.
