Civil Design Technician (Construction)

This position's basic function is to provide support to the project team to ensure quality and timely execution of assigned Projects from initiation through closeout, including; The basic functions include drone operations including software, regulatory and compliance, surveying, site balancing (AGTEK software), earthworks consultant/subcontractor management, permitting, estimating and budgeting, and construction quality and safety oversight. General Computer-Aided Design (CAD) skills required. Includes specific technical expertise such as, but not limited to, site location research, assessing site risks, utility locates, cut and fill analysis, soil typing, topographic surveys, field surveying, site storm and water management, Critical Path Method (CPM) scheduling, estimating and budgeting, procurement, cost reporting, and project management knowledge. The Civil Engineering Technician aids in development of design detail standards and processes that feed Preconstruction and Operations. This role provides leadership and must demonstrate knowledge in disciplined engineering principles, practices and methods, environmental regulations, project management methods, workplace safety, budgeting, personnel management, and project procurement processes. The successful candidate must be flexible and able to work well in a fast-paced environment. He or she should be competent in handling simultaneously occurring tasks and have excellent written, oral communication, and presentation skills. Skills Knowledge of surveying and construction principles/practices required Drone operations and maintenance including software, flight preparation, data collection and analysis, reporting, drawing outputs, and industry compliance and regulations AGTEK and Civil 3D software to produce and modify civil construction plans and design automation tools General CAD knowledge required Ability to develop Critical Path Method (CPM) schedule Must be able to read and interpret drawings and specifications Must have the ability to perform and be proficient in geometrical and mathematical calculations Must have knowledge and ability necessary to perform layout and surveying Some knowledge or experience with Value Engineering (VE) Must have knowledge of construction industry standards Knowledge or experience with construction schedules and safety Must have knowledge of basic computer systems and software Must be able to collaborate with engineering and architectural consultants Must be able to provide technical support and assistance to team members as required Must have excellent documentation skills Education Degree in Civil Engineering, Surveying, Construction Management, or Civil Engineering Technology. In some cases, EXXCEL will train individuals without an engineering education to perform the job. Construction field experience and surveying ability is highly valued. Prefer up-to-date CPR/AED certificate and 30-hour OSHA training. Experience In addition to formal education, personnel shall demonstrate 3 years' previous work experience in the field and skills in written and verbal communication. Successful internships or Project Engineering experience on projects of at least $5 million (Design/Build preferred) is a plus. Experience in earthwork/excavation contractor industry required. Experienced dealing with subcontracts, subcontractors and/or self-perform work is a plus.
