The Director - People Team, Sea-going, lives by our Creeds and drives positive crew engagement. Also responsible for the strategic implementation of Shipboard People Team processes and procedures across all departments in subjects such as Employee Relations, Training & Development, Coaching, Counseling and Leadership Training. What You Will Be Up To: Strive to build employee morale and develop strategies in partnership with onboard leadership and the shoreside People Team to enhance overall crew satisfaction and engagement; ensure a commitment to crew satisfaction; inspire crew through encouragement and recognition of outstanding performance. Provide an accessible nurturing environment to handle employee relations issues using effective conflict resolution, assist in arbitrating disputes and resolving grievances, whilst guiding team members toward the correct outcome. Educate and support the onboard management with regards to People Team policies, procedures and standards including company's performance management systems, promotions and our progressive discipline procedures. Ensure consistent and fair application of all People Team policies and procedures. Provide open and honest performance feedback and take appropriate action to improve performance. Champion Performance Management resources and partner with ship-board leadership to implement these tools when necessary. Measure and action how the ship is performing against KPI targets and ensure that the role influences meeting or exceeding all KPI's. Partner with Department and Division heads to ensure that crew members understand how their roles can control expenses or generate revenue. Monitor and support how the vessel is driving performance to manage against revenue targets. Oversee activities relating to sign on and sign off procedures, crew immigration/customers and all other issues related to the People Team center, including turnover and unplanned movement. Execute additional job responsibilities, as assigned by Virgin Voyages leadership, based on operational needs. Drive positive crew relations by ensuring compliance with MLC, collective bargaining agreements, People Team policies and procedures and partnering with leaders to resolve conflict/grievances. Facilitate all aspects of talent management, including career coaching, crew development, succession planning, talent assessment, internal promotions, and leadership cultural effectiveness. Ensure confidentiality and discretion of all crew information and conversations including but not limited to discipline, medical and matters of a private nature. Chair the Welfare Committee onboard and play an active role in looking for improvements to Crew areas and functions onboard; manage the People Team and Crew Welfare budgets and monitor and control crew expenses. Provide direction and guidance to the Training and Development Manager to ensure ongoing leadership development and required training is conducted under corporate compliance objectives. Support Deputy Captain and Security Officer when conducting onboard investigations. Establish and maintain professional relationships with government officials, port agents and other business partners in various ports of call in order to drive business effectiveness. Maintain awareness among the crew of basic safety rules and a safe working environment. Super Powers Required: Minimum 5 years' experience as HR Manager onboard a Cruise Ship or within a large organization. Minimum of 3 years' experience in employee relations investigating, negotiating, and resolving grievances and conflicts, preferably in a multi-cultural, diverse environment. BA Degree or equivalent in Human Resources or CIPD or equivalent qualified. Extensive Employee Relations experience and coaching/guidance for senior members of staff. Proven people skills along with conflict resolution, counseling, mediating and motivational skills. Out of this world organization skills and able to execute operational imperatives in a swift and demanding environment. All certificates as required by the STCW code for this position. Good command of the English Language. Strong analytical and written communication skills. Communicate tactfully, effectively and confidently with crew, sailors, and department/division heads, both one-on-one and in a larger group setting. Commitment to upholding the integrity of the People department. Effective at building relationships at all levels and the ability to find solutions.
