Friday, December 27, 2024 The Fund for Public Health in New York City (FPHNYC) is a 501(c)3 non-profit organization dedicated to the advancement of the health and well-being of all New Yorkers. In partnership with the New York City Department of Health and Mental Hygiene (DOHMH), FPHNYC incubates innovative public health initiatives to advance community health throughout the city. It facilitates partnerships between government and the private sector to develop, test, and launch new initiatives that meet the public health needs of individuals, families, and communities across New York City. PROGRAM OVERVIEW The Healthy Eating Unit within the DOHMH's Bureau of Chronic Disease Prevention is seeking a Farm to Preschool Project Coordinator to support the Farm to Preschool Program (F2P). The F2P program engages families, children, and staff at participating childcare centers to influence healthy eating habits and food environments at the center, in the home, and in the community. This is achieved by supporting centers with gardening activities, nutrition education, and adding local foods to their menus. This position will be housed within the Bureau of Chronic Disease Prevention (BCDP), which strives to reduce the burden of chronic disease among New Yorkers. BCDP focuses on nutrition, tobacco use, screening for cancer, and reducing the incidence and impact of hypertension, while addressing the impact of structural racism and other injustices that affect health outcomes in communities of color. POSITION OVERVIEW The Farm to Preschool Coordinator will lead implementation of the Farm to Preschool initiative at three childcare centers in neighborhoods with high percentages of residents living with low incomes and limited access to fresh produce. The Coordinator will report to the Farm to Preschool Program Manager. RESPONSIBILITIES The F2P Coordinator will: Plan, implement, and coordinate Farm to Preschool community services by engaging with childcare center directors. Provide technical assistance, information sessions, and training for childcare center staff. Engage early childhood educators, parents, and community members in gardening projects and support follow-up activities. Conduct community services such as recipe demonstrations and local produce promotion. Document program data required for evaluation reports as required by funders. Partner with community stakeholders to support continued programming. Maintain accurate records of program expenditures and supplies. Participate in regular team meetings and provide feedback on program policies. Support the Farm to Preschool Program Manager with other duties as assigned. QUALIFICATIONS 2+ years of experience in nutrition and/or culinary education programming in low-income communities. Excellent attention to detail and strong organizational skills. Flexible, outgoing, and able to work independently. Understanding of health inequities and community food security issues in NYC. Experience with gardening, particularly container gardening in urban spaces. Serve Safe or related food safety certification. Proficient in Microsoft Suite, including Excel and PowerPoint. Able to occasionally lift and move items weighing up to 25 pounds. Oral and written fluency in Spanish preferred. SALARY AND BENEFITS Annual Salary: $63,000 - $68,000. WORK SCHEDULE 9:00am - 5:00pm, Hybrid, Monday-Friday (both in-office and on-site in community).
