The San Diego City Attorney's Office is seeking applications for the Unclassified position of Communications and Public Engagement Manager. Under direction of the Chief of Staff, the Communications and Public Engagement Manager will assist the Chief of Staff and City Attorney in all manner of public communications and outreach, including responding to media inquiries, organizing community forums, developing printed materials, creating content for the City Attorney's Office website and social media accounts, communicating with members of the public, and acting as a liaison to the media and City communication staff. The Communications and Public Engagement Manager will also support the work of City Attorney's Office in state and federal legislative affairs. The successful candidate should have prior government experience. Key Responsibilities: Develop and implement strategies and events to strengthen community participation. Facilitate internal and external communications, events, and meetings. Develop, evaluate, and manage print and electronic materials for distribution. Maintain relationships with community leaders, including local law enforcement, elected officials, community members, and volunteers of diverse backgrounds. Lead projects as assigned. Write and edit news releases, op-eds, speeches, and correspondence. Respond to media inquiries. Design, develop and maintain informational presentations, web content and social media accounts. Attend community events on behalf of the Office. Support state and federal legislative affairs projects. Perform other duties as needed. Minimum Requirements: A Bachelor's degree, or any combination of training and experience that would provide the required knowledge, skills, and abilities. Excellent written, verbal, public presentation/communication skills, and strong interpersonal skills. The ability to set, manage, and meet goals and deadlines in a fast-paced environment. Strong organizational skills and proficiency at multi-tasking. Relationship-building skills, along with the ability to anticipate conflicts and facilitate resolution. The ability to communicate effectively to different audiences, including various levels of City management and members of the public. Initiative, creativity, resourcefulness, and critical thinking skills. Strong ethics in dealing with sensitive matters. Ideal Candidates Will Have: Five or more years of experience in the communications field. Familiarity with San Diego communities and their unique needs. Experience working with law enforcement, elected officials, and community stakeholders. Fluency in both Spanish and English is highly desirable. Work-life balance is important to the City Attorney's Office. The Office generally supports telework and the position may allow for a hybrid schedule with a mix of in-office and remote work after the introductory and probationary period. Please refer to the Office's teleworking policy. Compensation and Benefits: The successful candidate's annual salary will be based on qualifications and level of relevant experience. In addition to a competitive salary, the City of San Diego offers a comprehensive benefits package including: Participation in the City's Flexible Benefits Plan, which offers several optional benefit plans or a taxable cash option. $50,000 in City-paid life insurance. Flexible Spending Accounts. Paid annual leave (paid time off) accruing at 22 days per year for the 1st through 15th year of service.
