Academy of Art University is seeking a Rapid Prototyping Manager for the School of Industrial Design to work directly with students, faculty, and staff to oversee model making curriculum for both onsite and online courses. This individual will serve as the contact person for all work performed on the IDS Department's CNC Machinery as well as instruct classes. This is an optimal opportunity for someone with rapid prototyping experience. Responsibilities: Oversee Model Making Curriculum for online/onsite model making courses. Serve as contact person for any work to be performed on the IDS Department's CNC machinery. Liaise between students/faculty/industry in scheduling, usage, and billing of time on these machines. Liaise between faculty from partner departments to develop interdepartmental workflow. Run programs to produce models on the machinery listed below: 5-Axis CNC Router Laser Cutters Stratasys 3D Printer Handheld 3D Scanner Cutting Plotter All applicable software programs and support computers Maintain supplies and consumables for all machinery listed. Maintain all machinery in "turn-key" condition, for immediate use. Devise 3-tier marketing plan and billing strategy for: IDS Students and Faculty AAU Non-IDS students and faculty Industry clients Keep all fabrication software updated. Train IDS Tool Crib Technicians. Develop systems to maximize efficiency and understanding of appropriateness of process application. Coordinate with Shop Manager to make sure the shop is equipped to support the model making curriculum. Support Shop Manager as necessary regarding staffing, scheduling and materials management. Aid students in establishing build plans. Support shop staff in fabrication and troubleshooting. Manage the rapid prototyping equipment (laser cutting, 3D printing, vinyl plotting, digital scanning, multi-axis machining) and maintenance coordination of aforementioned equipment. Assist shop and IND department in procurement of supplies and materials. Troubleshoot Shop Equipment Issues. Full-time Faculty Responsibilities: Responsible for all aspects of teaching the class, including, but not limited to, preparing for the class, implementing a syllabus and course outline, communicating with students, evaluating and grading students, maintaining current and accurate records that require online entry of student data, including attendance, progress grades, midterm grades and final grades. Engage in every section of your assigned online classes at least once a day, 6 days a week (one of the days must be a Saturday). Review all posts, comments, and mailbox messages for online classes during each active module and respond to all online students within 1 business day. Leave public evidence of your online presence including but not limited to: a new post, comment, public critique or an announcement to the class. Must post on the first day of class for every section of your assigned online classes and include in your Instructor Profile the "check-in" times for the above mentioned 6 days when you will be online to answer student questions. Ensure consistent communication is provided to all online students throughout the semester. Submit all progress grades and mid-term grades within 2 business days of the last class taught. Final grades must be submitted within 5 business days after the last class of the semester. Post critiques and grades for assignments to the LMS within 3 business days of submission (2 business days during the summer semester). Perform additional instructor duties in addition to the class load schedule as defined in 2.2a, as assigned by the Department Director. These additional duties may include, but not be limited to, workshops, directed study sessions, portfolio reviews, and other instructional work. Demonstrate mastery of the course material. Have a thorough understanding of all course content including: assignments, discussion topics, and Course Learning Outcomes. Assess students' achievement of the course learning outcomes. Offer constructive feedback to assist students in their skills development. Participate in assessment activities, including midpoint and final reviews. Participate in improvement activities, including DAT meetings, course revision/rebuilds, curriculum review and new course development. Communicate with your department director, faculty lead, and where appropriate online build team about ways in which student learning can be improved in your class(es). Contact students who are absent from class, within the same day of the missed class, and offer support to assist each student with regular class attendance. Escalate student concerns to other University departments as needed (i.e. ARC, Athletics, Student Services, etc.). Conduct peer evaluations as requested by the department director. Hold regularly posted office hours. Mentor students on their academic progress. Manage and monitor equipment and facilities within the department. Attend university events and department meetings, as required. Maintain guidelines set by the Academy of Art University. Ensure compliance with state laws and all standards of the Academy's various accrediting agencies. Remain current in your knowledge of and professional connections to your field. Demonstrate a commitment to improving teaching effectiveness by facilitating learning and skills acquisition in your course(s) using teaching strategies appropriate to the course delivery mode (onsite/online). Qualifications: A minimum of 5 years' professional experience in the field of Industrial Design, solid knowledge in the Industrial Design field and Rapid Prototyping. A minimum of 4 years' management experience preferred. Excellent leadership, training and developmental skills as well as strong decision-making skills. Strong attention to detail, excellent verbal and written communication skills with the ability to effectively communicate at all levels in the organization. Compensation: $75,000.00 - $85,000.00 annually, based on experience and location. Academy of Art University is based solely in San Francisco, California. This job opportunity may be available for remote work from a predesignated location within the contiguous United States.
