Job Summary:We are seeking a detail-oriented and highly skilled Certified Mental Health Coder to join our team. This role is responsible for accurately assigning and reviewing codes for mental health diagnoses, treatments, and procedures. The ideal candidate will have a deep understanding of ICD-10-CM, CPT, HCPCS coding systems, and specialized knowledge in behavioral health services. This position requires the ability to ensure compliance with healthcare regulations and ensure proper reimbursement from insurance carriers.Key Responsibilities:Review patient charts and documentation from mental health providers (therapists, psychologists, psychiatrists, etc.) to assign appropriate ICD-10, CPT, and HCPCS codes for diagnoses, treatments, and procedures.Ensure coding accuracy in compliance with applicable healthcare regulations, including HIPAA guidelines.Work closely with medical and billing staff to resolve any discrepancies or errors in coding and assist with insurance claims processing.Stay up to date with coding updates, changes in regulations, and mental health-related coding practices.Assist with audits and ensure proper documentation standards are maintained for insurance purposes and regulatory compliance.Provide support to the billing department by ensuring all codes are submitted correctly for reimbursement.Communicate with healthcare providers to clarify documentation and ensure the correct coding of mental health services.Review and apply current coding standards, guidelines, and conventions specific to mental health and behavioral health.Identify and report any issues related to incorrect coding practices, fraud, or abuse.Qualifications:Certification as a Certified Professional Coder (CPC), Certified Coding Specialist (CCS), or similar certification is required.Experience in coding for mental health or behavioral health services, including outpatient settings.In-depth knowledge of ICD-10-CM, CPT, and HCPCS coding systems.Strong understanding of mental health diagnoses, treatment methods, and services.Familiarity with insurance reimbursement processes and healthcare claims.Attention to detail, organizational skills, and ability to work independently.Strong communication skills to collaborate effectively with medical professionals and administrative staff.Proficiency with coding software and electronic health record (EHR) systems.Ability to maintain confidentiality and comply with HIPAA regulations.Preferred Qualifications:Additional certifications related to medical coding or mental health.Previous experience in a healthcare setting with a focus on mental health coding.Working Conditions:Full-time, remote or on-site opportunities available.Competitive salary and benefits package.RequiredPreferredJob IndustriesHealthcare
