Position: Chemical Handler 3Do you have the right skills and experience for this role Read on to find out, and make your application.Location: Melbourne, FLPay Rate: $25-$27 per hour (No benefits)Position Overview: The Chemical Handler 3 will perform a variety of tasks related to controlling and monitoring chemicals within the facility or manufacturing production organization. The role ensures compliance with federal, state, and local regulations, including the EPA Clean Water Act and the DOT Toxic Substances Control Act. This position requires effective chemical handling, waste management, safety compliance, and equipment monitoring within a hazardous work environment.Key Responsibilities:Monitor chemicals, related equipment, and waste system indicators, making adjustments as necessary to ensure proper functioning and balance of chemical solutions.Handle and dispose of waste chemicals, solvents, acids, and other hazardous materials following appropriate safety protocols.Inspect hazardous waste production and storage units to ensure they are in compliance with safety and regulatory standards.Maintain operational logs and records related to hazardous materials management.Manage the Hazardous Materials Center (HMC) operations, including:Accepting and managing hazardous waste from different departments.Operating and maintaining equipment such as compactors and forklifts.Coordinating waste pickup by vendors and performing 180-Day Central Accumulation Area Storage inspections.Supporting spill cleanup and hazardous waste packing.Ensure compliance with safety regulations, including specialized training in DOT HazMat, HAZWOPER, and other related certifications.Perform hazardous material handling tasks under occasional hazardous working conditions, using required safety equipment.Ensure proper chemical spill cleanup and monitor/verify chemical quality through control procedures.Required Qualifications:Minimum of 5 years of experience in a chemical handling or related position.Certification in DOT HazMat, 40 hr HAZWOPER, Forklift certification, RCRA Training, and Hazard Communication Training.Familiarity with SDS (Safety Data Sheets) and hazardous material handling.Strong knowledge of various chemicals (acids, bases, oxidizers, flammables, reducers, water-reactives) in multiple forms (liquids, solids, gases, sludges, slurries) and their incompatibilities.Ability to handle and dispose of hazardous chemicals and perform inspections in compliance with regulatory standards.Strong communication skills, both verbal and written.High attention to detail, with strong organizational skills.Ability to work in an outdoor environment and perform manual lifting and movement of materials (e.g., 55-gallon hazardous waste drums).Ability to work well independently and as part of a team in a collaborative environment.Physical Requirements:Ability to stand for extended periods.Ability to walk long distances and lift materials manually as needed.Comfortable working in Florida's outdoor conditions.Supervision:Limited supervision. The Chemical Handler 3 will be able to perform routine work without instruction and receive general instructions for new tasks or special assignments. May assist in orienting, training, and supervising lower-level employees.Skills and Knowledge:Comprehensive understanding of the job, including general and detailed aspects of the role and its practical applications.Ability to resolve most questions and problems independently, escalating complex issues to higher-level personnel.Additional Information:This role involves performing work in occasional hazardous conditions requiring specialized safety equipment and adherence to strict safety protocols.
