This position will be available at the Chemours Discovery Hub, in Newark, Delaware and report directly to the Engineering Technology Director.The position will require advanced technical expertise in corrosion and metallurgy to deliver support across a wide spectrum of Corrosion Engineering initiatives including new bench scale process development, pilot plant operations, capital project support, and managing and resolving corrosion issues and failures in commercially operating processes. This support will involve the selection and application of a range of high-performance alloys in highly corrosive environments, corrosion testing and materials evaluation, root cause failure analysis, welding material selection and specifications, as-needed support for fabrication and repair, and executing advanced corrosion and materials technology programs for Chemours' growth and manufacturing initiatives.The responsibilities of the position include, but are not limited to, the following:Serve as a Corrosion subject matter expert for materials selection and degradation issues in highly corrosive chemical processes by collaborating with Chemours Engineering Consultants, plant engineers and/or research scientists to drive solutions for corrosion control for plant operations, Capital projects and new process development efforts.Design unique lab corrosion testing and field corrosion monitoring programs and execute root cause failure analyses programs with recommendations for corrosion management and mitigation approaches.Direct and train laboratory technologists and materials engineers on laboratory corrosion test setups and procedures, including safety protocols and hazard reviews.Lead and deploy new technologies related to corrosion and materials to enhance field operations. Manage the Corporate Corrosion Data-base and forecast new lab capital equipment to expand current lab capabilities.Lead cross-functional, site, and corporate program teams for business wide issues, including networking with company resources and driving interactions with external customers, partners, and laboratories to achieve timely solutions to significant business objectives.Provide in-depth mentorship and internal corrosion training to new technical professionals in addition to writing of technical documents, interaction with clients, and how to research and prioritize work.Travel to plant sites and fabrication shops for face-to-face interactions, estimated 10%.The following is required for this role:An advanced degree, MS or PhD in Metallurgical, Corrosion Engineering, Materials Science, or Chemical Engineering with a strong technical foundation in corrosion and materials technology. Candidates with an MS in Chemical Engineering or Chemistry who have demonstrated proficiency in metallurgy, corrosion, and/or materials engineering will also be considered.Industrial experience and in-depth understanding of the application of high-performance alloys in highly corrosive processes, along with proficiency in their metallurgy, corrosion damage mechanisms, and welding and repair procedures.Strong experimental background in corrosion testing methods with the ability to design and implement lab tests that simulate complex plant corrosive environments/situations. Ability to direct and work safely in a variety of hazardous and corrosive environments is essential.Strong interpersonal, networking and teamwork skills for leading and building consensus in multi-disciplinary teams for problem solving, developing a client base, and working well with all levels of Chemours personnel, including upper-level management, engineering consultants, lab technologists, and research scientists, chemists, and analytical personnel.Flexibility and the ability to meet commitments in a timely manner are required as consulting efforts will vary from intense short-term laboratory testing and root cause failure analyses (RCFAs) to longer-term in-depth technical programs and field on-line corrosion monitoring.The following is preferred for this role:Over five years of experience in the Chemical Process or related Industries is desired.Knowledge of electrochemical techniques and various analytical methods for the evaluation of corrosion mechanisms.Ability to develop and lead longer-term applied research programs around Chemours's operating and developmental chemical manufacturing processes.Knowledge in related Materials Engineering fields such as non-destructive testing (NDT), welding, and fabrication.Benefits:Competitive CompensationComprehensive Benefits Packages401(k) MatchEmployee Stock Purchase Program Tuition ReimbursementCommuter Benefits Learning and Development OpportunitiesStrong Inclusion and Diversity InitiativesCompany-paid Volunteer DayWe're a different kind of chemistry company because we see our people as our biggest assets.
