Duration: Full Time Permanent The Network Engineer will provide administration, operation, and maintenance of network and network security devices within the DOC network environments. This includes routers, switches, firewalls, IDS, and proxies. The Network Engineer will collaborate with System Owners, Information System Security Officers (ISSO), and Subject Matter Experts (SMEs) to support network infrastructure. Key Responsibilities: Network Administration & Support: Administer, operate, and maintain network devices (routers, switches, load balancers, firewalls, IDS). Provide technical guidance for network system design, implementation, and troubleshooting. Monitor, analyze, and resolve network performance issues, including capacity planning. Test, install, and support LAN/WAN systems, ensuring proper functionality and performance. Ensure continuous network monitoring, troubleshooting, and optimization for high availability and performance. Maintain network monitoring tools, ensuring proactive monitoring of all network devices and services. System Design & Integration: Lead or assist in designing, configuring, and integrating network systems to support NS3's mission. Perform system-level design for hardware, OS, and platform specifications. Analyze and optimize network characteristics (e.g., traffic, transmission speeds) for improved performance. Design and implement scalable, fault-tolerant network topologies and solutions, including VPNs, load balancing, NAT, etc. Troubleshooting & Problem Resolution: Identify and resolve network issues, design flaws, outages, and security vulnerabilities. Work with vendors to resolve issues during outages or degraded system performance. Ensure adherence to security protocols and assist with security accreditation efforts. Collaboration & Documentation: Work closely with technical teams to provide end-user support and issue resolution. Maintain detailed documentation on network configurations, incidents, and operational status. Assist in disaster recovery planning and network-related policy discussions. Recommend improvements to network infrastructure, based on industry trends and emerging technologies. Vendor & Procurement Management: Interface with vendors for procurement, installation, and maintenance of IT infrastructure. Evaluate and recommend solutions based on current and projected network demands. Deliverables: Maintenance Report: Status of administered devices, including updates, patches, configuration changes, and backups. Outage/Impact Report: Documenting network outages and their impact on operations. Mitigation/Remediation Recommendations: Propose solutions for identified vulnerabilities affecting administered devices. Other Reports & Documentation: Any additional reports or documents required by the task, in agreed-upon formats and timeframes. Security and Clearance: Required: Active Top Secret clearance with eligibility for Sensitive Compartmented Information (SCI) access. Certifications: Must hold one of the following certifications: CCNA, CCDA, CCDP, or higher. Experience and Education Requirements: Senior-Level: Minimum of 10 years of related experience. Mid-Level: Minimum of 5 years of related experience, or a Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Engineering, Business, or related technical discipline. Work Schedule: Standard business hours, with flexibility to accommodate system maintenance and troubleshooting as needed.
