EXAMINATION IS ANNOUNCED TO ESTABLISH AN EMPLOYMENT LIST TO FILL ONE (1) CURRENT WEST JEFFERSON VACANCY IN THE DEPARTMENT OF ACCOUNTING.Learn more about the general tasks related to this opportunity below, as well as required skills.Kind of Work:Under general supervision, the purpose of this position is to perform responsible, professional level accounting work involving the accurate maintenance and financial reporting for assigned accounts, services, funds, and/or cost centers of the Parish. This position must adhere to Accounting Department Policies and Procedures, any applicable laws, and Parish-wide Rules and Regulations. Employees in this classification are responsible for ensuring the timely and accurate recording and reporting of all financial activities for the assigned area. Additionally, this position is responsible for reviewing and approving purchase orders, generating and/or preparing reports, preparing journal entries, reconciling accounts, reviewing ordinances and resolutions to determine/implement appropriate actions, reviewing general ledgers and trial balances, assisting with year-end closing process, assisting with annual financial audit, and assisting with other duties as assigned.Minimum Qualifications For Admission to Examination:Meet ONE (1) of the following:I. Bachelor's degree in Accounting or FinanceORII. Bachelor's degree in Business Administration, Public Administration, or a related field and significant (at least 9 months) experience performing professional accounting dutiesORIII. Current employment and permanent civil service status with Jefferson Parish in the classification of Accountant II.Kind of Examination:(ENTRANCE AND PROMOTIONAL)The examination may consist of a written test, a rating of training and experience, an oral panel interview or any combination thereof. Acceptable applicants will be notified of the time, date, and place of any assembled testing. Applicants must supply complete and accurate information concerning their training and experience including a detailed description of their work experience, the names and addresses of all previous employers and the dates of employment. The information is subject to verification and the Personnel Department reserves the right to determine the quality and quantity of education and experience claimed for credit.
