HVAC Technician 2All potential applicants are encouraged to scroll through and read the complete job description before applying.Position Number: 010106FLSA Status: Non ExemptDivision: Business AffairsDepartment: Facilities Management (Adm)Work Unit: FM HVAC ShopSalary Range: $42,011 - $52,214Anticipate Hiring Range: $42,011 - $51,555Work Schedule: 8:00 am - 4:30 pm; Monday - Friday with occasional evening and weekend hours required, as necessary.Mandatory PositionThis position is designated as "˜mandatory' and, when contacted to report to work, its incumbent is expected to reach the building as expeditiously as possible using normal precautions as dictated by the adverse weather conditions.Primary Purpose of Position:This is a Facility Maintenance Technician (Mechanical Trades) at the Journey level. The position is considered fully functioning in the HVAC trade area. Additionally, this position is expected to be able to perform all general maintenance work. Tasks may include maintenance, repair, placement, fabrication, installation, alteration, construction, and design of facility components in the HVAC Shop.Minimum Education/Experience:Required Minimum Qualifications:Graduation from high school or equivalent. Experience in the trade(s) areas related to the position's role may be substituted on a year-for-year basis.University Preferred Qualifications:Graduation from high school or equivalent and two years experience. Experience in the trade(s) areas related to the position's role may be substituted on a year-for-year basis.Essential Job Duties:The FM Tech Mechanical Trades performs under the direction of the Facilities Management HVAC shop Supervisor.Duties include:Responsible for performing routine maintenance of HVAC, equipment to ensure that machines continue to run smoothly, building systems operate efficiently, and/or the physical condition of buildings do not deteriorate.Use electrical test devices to troubleshoot and repair HVAC electrical control circuits.Diagnose mechanical problems and determine how to correct them by checking blueprints, repair manuals, or parts catalogs as necessary.Use tools ranging from common hand and power tools, such as hammers, hoists, saws, drills, and wrenches to precision measuring instruments and electrical and electronic testing devices.Use knowledge and skill with Building Automation Systems (BAS) to complete tasks as needed.Look up and order parts using Google sheets and drive.Other Work Responsibilities:Act as a lead worker and provide technical assistance and mentor contributing facility maintenance technicians, therefore must possess strong knowledge of fire, building, electrical, and mechanical codes to maintain compliance with State, Federal and University regulations and standards.Work with minimal supervision or instruction, and complete work with a high level of competence and professionalism in compliance with generally accepted trade practices.Communicate effectively with customers, managers, and provide high quality customer service based on University policy and procedures.Record daily activities into order tracking system (Archibus) using a tablet.Perform other duties as assigned and/or delegated to support all operations.Departmental Preferred Experience, Skills, Training/Education:High school diploma or GED equivalency.Associates degree from an accredited institution preferred.Four years' of experience in the installation, maintenance and repair of HVAC, and refrigeration equipment.E.P.A. 608 Refrigerant certificationAbility to act as a lead technician and provide guidance to other technicians.Proven track record in facilities preferred.Ability to effectively communicate the English language (reading, writing, interpretation and comprehension) required.Effective skills in verbal, written and interpersonal communications.Computer literate.Knowledge and skill with Google E-mail, Microsoft Word and Excel, and willingness to learn new programs.Ability to foster and create an atmosphere of teamwork.Selected candidate must have capabilities to perform the essential functions of the position with or without reasonable accommodations.Necessary Licenses or Certifications:Positions may be required to possess and maintain required certification, licensure, educational level, and/or experience criteria as applicable to the tasks being performed and follow applicable building codes.E.P.A. 608 Refrigerant certificationPosting Date: 02/06/2025Closing Date: 02/20/2025Proposed Hire Date: 03/03/2025Special Notes to Applicants:UNC Charlotte Benefits Information: finalist will be subject to a Criminal Background Check.* The Search Committee will not contact references without first verifying permission with the finalist"‹.Please ensure your full range of knowledge, skills, abilities, experience, and education are listed on your application.* Do not write "˜see resume' on your application when completing the job duties section.If you answer the questions at the end of the application, please ensure your application reflects the knowledge, skills, abilities, and experiences to support your answers (see job duties section of previous employment).* Failure to answer the questions at the end of the application will not preclude your application from being considered but may result in your application not receiving full consideration of your knowledge, skills, and abilities.Please submit a resume and cover letter with your application.* These documents will be used to evaluate your written communication skills as well as supporting documents of your knowledge, skills, abilities, education, and professional experience.To apply, visit
