The Director is responsible for the hiring, supervision, and development of the Volunteer Engagement team. This position reports directly to the Chief Program Officer.POSITION DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIESDefines the strategy for and leads Martha's Table's Volunteer Engagement program.Leads and supports the Volunteer Engagement team in developing innovative tactics and plans to ensure a comprehensive and cohesive approach to volunteer activities.Collaborates with program leaders on the definition, implementation, monitoring, and continuous improvement of processes and procedures for all Martha's Table's volunteer opportunities, to ensure a positive and high-quality volunteer experience.Positions community volunteerism as a job development tool that increases employability. Connects volunteers to Martha's Table programs and activities.Leads Martha's Table's volunteer recognition activities to acknowledge exceptional efforts, longevity of volunteerism, number of hours contributed annually, and other life events, as appropriate.Serves as a thought leader and planner for new volunteer engagement and volunteer appreciation opportunities.Partners with the Development team to develop, implement, and evaluate volunteer strategies that cultivate relationships leading to a volunteer to donor pipeline.Collaborates with the Communications team to develop promotional materials designed to resonate with potential volunteers and raise awareness of volunteer opportunities at Martha's Table.Directly supervises three Volunteer Engagement Managers and one Volunteer Engagement Coordinator.Leads, coaches, and develops Volunteer Engagement team members.Manages the Volunteer Engagement team based on organizational goals, budget considerations, and staffing needs. Works with HR to ensure that team members are appropriately recruited, onboarded, supported, and appraised; takes action to address performance problems.Performs 90-day introductory period evaluations, annual performance evaluations, and mid-year reviews with team members, in addition to regular 1:1 check-ins to promote a culture of ongoing professional growth.Establishes annual departmental and team member goals and objectives, and tracks results against the strategic goals of the organization.AdministrationUnderstands organizational financial processes, monitors and manages budgets, and leads the Volunteer Engagement team in the development of annual program budgets that are aligned to strategic goals.Oversees the ordering of supplies, monitors expenditures, and uses cost-benefit thinking to set priorities.Leads quarterly reporting processes for the Volunteer Engagement team.Partners with the Learning, Evaluation, and Research (LER) team to manage data collection and evaluate the effectiveness of programming against intended outcomes for all volunteer opportunities.External RelationshipsEstablishes, maintains, and further develops relationships with external partners, including: social, civic, and community-based institutions and organizations; schools; corporate groups; funders; neighbors, community members, and other supporters.Identifies and leverages opportunities to broaden awareness of community-centered volunteer practices.Participates in fundraising events, meetings, and site visits.Attends at least 2 anchor events annually.Performs other duties as assigned.EXPERIENCE, KNOWLEDGE, AND SKILL REQUIREMENTSAt least 5 years of managerial experience.Demonstrated experience promoting teamwork and collaboration, and managing, training, observing, evaluating, and providing feedback to direct reports.Excellent organizational and time-management skills, including the ability to navigate ambiguity and manage multiple, concurrent projects and initiatives within and outside of the immediate team.Flexible, adaptable, and customer-focused, with a commitment to high standards of service, logistics, and operations.Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, and ability to engage internal and external stakeholders at all levels.Proficiency in multiple software applications including Google apps and Microsoft Office products.Demonstrated commitment to Martha's Table's core values of compassion, respect, teamwork, and accountability.Embodies and serves as a model for "white glove service".EDUCATION AND TRAINING REQUIREMENTSBachelor's degree and professional experience in stakeholder engagement, relationship management, project and program management. Qualified candidates without a degree must have five years of applicable professional experience.Required background checks and TB tests when working with students.WORKING CONDITIONSThis role will be required to work occasional evenings, weekends, and other non-standard work hours as needed. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to stand, walk, sit, use hands to finger, handle, or feel objects, tools, or controls; reach with hands and arms; climb stairs; balance; stoop; kneel; talk or hear; taste or smell. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by the job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.This position requires the completion of a satisfactory background check.
