DescriptionAre you the right applicant for this opportunity Find out by reading through the role overview below.Leidos is looking for a Senior Paralegal to work on-site in support of the Tax Division of the Department of Justice, Financial Litigation Unit. 2 days of teleworking is currently permitted, but this is subject to change.In the Financial Litigation Unit, the Office of Review evaluates settlement offers in complex and monetarily significant cases handled by the Division, collaborates with Trial Sections in negotiating settlement proposals, furnishes advice and assistance in complex cases, takes final action on settlements within its authority, and advises the Assistant Attorney General for the Tax Division on settlements.Responsibilities include:Works with ALS (primarily Case Managers) to ensure the case has the necessary technology for E-Discovery;Compiles, prepares, and summarizes relevant materials for use by attorneys in discovery and in preparation of legal documents;Summarizes depositions and other transcripts; maintains case files; performs legal research; indexes, tracks and controls document discovery; prepares exhibit cross-references;Assists attorneys in the courtroom; reviews documents for relevance and privilege.Required Qualifications:- Paralegal certificate, JD, or currently attending an ABA-accredited law school with at least one year of study completed (or equivalent)- 2+ years of litigation paralegal experience or project experience, including at least one year in automated litigation support.- Knowledge of federal and state court system, legal research procedures, and resources like LEXIS and Westlaw.- Familiarity with ESI tools, eDiscovery procedures, and various computer applications.- Must be a US Citizen and able to obtain and maintain a Public Trust clearance.Desired Qualifications:- Trial experience- Current or active clearance- Experience with negotiation, settlements, or collections- Experience in drafting subpoenas, researching public records, and filing/recording public records- Understanding of business entities, lien priorities, trusts, estates, probate, basic accounting principles, or tax preparationThis position is covered under the Service Contract Act and is subject to minimum requirements.
