We are seeking a VP of Institutional Advancement responsible for leading a development department team that oversees corporate fundraising and foundation relations, annual support, major/individual gifts, planned giving, membership and Board development; and, in collaboration with others, capital fund raising. The VP will strategize, direct, and oversee all non-government fund raising initiatives, including annual unrestricted and program operating support, as well as current and future capital and endowment campaigns and fundraising events. Salary range: $160,000 - $220,000.A high number of candidates may make applications for this position, so make sure to send your CV and application through as soon as possible.Responsibilities include but are not limited to:Strategy/LeadershipProvide leadership for the Institutional Advancement department, creating short-term and long-range plans to meet revenue goals.Set clear, ambitious, and attainable performance goals for the individual team members and the department as a whole.Serve as a contributing member of the senior management team to help steward the Museum's resources. Serve as an advocate for the fundraising efforts at all levels of the organization"”help engage and educate the entire organization about fundraising priorities and opportunities.Engage the Board of Trustees and the leadership team to expand philanthropic support.Identify opportunities to leverage the Intrepid Museum's uniqueness and expand its base of philanthropic support.FundraisingDirect, expand and implement Board and major gift cultivation and stewardship.Lead the individual giving program, cultivating relationships with existing donors as well as identifying, cultivating, and soliciting new individual donors.Assume primary Major Gifts role and initiatives.Lead and expand corporate and foundation grant seeking toward larger longer-term grant support.Oversee the Membership team, including all stewardship, acquisition and retention efforts and grow this base of consistent general operating support.Lead fundraising for annual gala and other fundraising and cultivation events - generated uniquely for funding and/or supporting other initiatives, i.e., exhibit openings.Develop a planned giving program and cultivate new estate gifts.Collaborate with SVP of Business Development and VP Government Grants in securing and stewarding new corporate partners. Collaborate with VP Education to understand the programs and how implemented.Board RelationsWork with the President and Board Co-Chairmen on board development and establish relationships with the Board of Trustees.Collaborate with Board committees to maximize their involvement with the organization and its fundraising programs, recruit and cultivate new members.Management/OperationsEnsure that database systems are optimal for donor/prospect tracking, research, reports, acknowledgment, and stewardship.Monitor museum compliance with private funding requirements and develop new tracking and reporting mechanisms as needed. Identify and resolve compliance issues. Track and report spending against budgets. Create spreadsheets for the Intrepid Museum's budget, including any presentation necessary for donor confidence, and updating as appropriate. Oversee crafting of funding proposals and coordinate with department heads on the development of proposals and budgets. Communicate Museum needs to external private funders and grant requirements to museum departments. Ensure all reporting to funders is completed in a timely manner. Assist in preparation for annual outside audit as may be required. Annual report, newsletters, solicitations, and acknowledgements.The ideal candidates will have a Bachelor's degree and at least 10 years of experience in development with a demonstrated record of accomplishment in development leadership preferably in a cultural or other nonprofit organization. Proven record of working with a Board of Trustees to fund-raise. Track record of success as a front-line major gift solicitor. Successful experience planning and coordinating events - both large and small. Experience cultivating and interacting with potential major donors. Demonstrated ability to think creatively and bring new ideas and approaches to fundraising. Successful management experience. A self-starter who is capable of managing multiple projects across varying timeframes. A collaborative team-player, a strategist with an ability to engage all departments. Superior interpersonal, verbal, and written skills. An engaging personal style. Excellent judgment and integrity.
