Job Title: Food and Beverage Manager / Bar ManagerHave you got the right qualifications and skills for this job Find out below, and hit apply to be considered.Location: Athenaeum Center for Thought & Culture, Chicago, ILReports To: Events and Sales ManagerJob Type: Full-TimeRequirements: Ability to work nights and weekends based on event scheduleJob Overview:The Food and Beverage (F&B) Manager / Bar Manager at the Athenaeum Center for Thought & Culture is a full-time role responsible for managing all food and beverage operations, including bar services, morning coffee shop hours, and overseeing baristas and bartenders. This position also handles relationships with preferred caterers, bar package contracting, inventory software expertise, room setups, maintaining required city and state licenses, and administrative tasks. The ideal candidate will ensure seamless operations, excellent service, and a proactive approach to ongoing learning and improvement.Key Responsibilities:Food and Beverage Operations:Oversee bar operations during performances and events, ensuring smooth service, proper inventory, and compliance with local liquor laws.Manage morning coffee shop hours, ensuring high-quality service, scheduling, and oversight of baristas.Develop and update menus for both coffee shop services and events, offering creative and high-quality options.Staff Management & Training:Recruit, train, and supervise baristas, bartenders, and food service staff.Ensure the team is proficient in customer service, operational standards, and inventory software use.Provide ongoing training and ensure the use of inventory software is optimized.Inventory & Financial Management:Maintain stock levels of beverages, coffee supplies, snacks, and food items.Proactively learn and regularly review the inventory software to remain an expert, ensuring the system is used effectively for tracking, ordering, and reporting inventory.Oversee the F&B and coffee shop budget, track sales, control costs, and maximize profitability.Provide regular financial reports on sales, costs, and inventory levels.Event Coordination & Room Setups:Oversee the setup and breakdown of rooms for social events, coffee hours, and functions involving food and beverage services, ensuring efficient event preparation and layout.Assist with drawing layouts for room setups and physically move and arrange furniture to meet event needs.Vendor & Relationship Management:Manage relationships with preferred caterers, ensuring they meet the Athenaeum Center's standards.Handle all bar package contracting, ensuring options are clearly defined, well-communicated to clients, and aligned with event needs.Negotiate and maintain contracts with vendors and service providers to ensure optimal pricing and quality.Compliance, Licensing & Administrative Work:Ensure compliance with health, safety, and hygiene regulations in all F&B operations, maintaining cleanliness and organization.Maintain all required city and state licenses for bar and food services, ensuring timely renewals and compliance with local regulations.Handle all administrative tasks related to licensing, including paperwork, filings, and record-keeping.Customer Service & Compliance:Ensure excellent customer service during events and coffee shop hours, resolving any issues promptly and professionally.Requirements:Proven experience as a Food and Beverage Manager or Bar Manager, ideally in a hospitality or performing arts setting.Expertise in managing preferred caterer relationships and bar package contracting.Proactive in learning and regularly reviewing inventory software systems, becoming an expert and training others.Experience with room setups, including drawing layouts and physically moving furniture for social and drinking functions.Excellent leadership, organizational, and customer service skills.Financial management experience, including budgeting, inventory control, and reporting.Ability to work flexible hours, including mornings, nights, and weekends, based on coffee shop and event schedules.Strong communication skills and ability to work collaboratively across departments.Food Handler and BASSET certification preferred or willingness to obtain.Physical Requirements:Ability to stand for extended periods.Ability to lift and carry up to 50 pounds.About Us:The Athenaeum Center for Thought & Culture is a not-for-profit organization whose mission and principal activities are to promote and support fine arts, cultural programming, and spiritual development for Catholics and the general public in Chicago, Illinois.
