Senior Grant & Contract Specialist - (2400015H)The University of Maryland School of Medicine, Department of Epidemiology and Public Health has an exciting opportunity for a Sr. Grant & Contract Specialist. This position is responsible for management and oversight of all grants and contracts awarded to the Division of Gerontology.UMB offers a comprehensive benefits package that prioritizes wellness, work/life balance, and professional development. This residency requirement also applies to those performing telework.Primary Duties:Prepares grant and contract budget and application. Finalizes documents for submission. Validates proposal errors and/or warnings. Knowledgeable in all funding mechanisms and interprets federal, state, University, sponsor policies and regulations to ensure compliance.Provides consultation, advice, and directions to faculty/PIs regarding grant and/or contracting issue resolution.Translates program requirements into contract terms in consultation with principal investigator (PI) and management. Identifies, develops, and ensures contract requirements contain quantifiable specifications and measurable performance criteria.Reviews sponsor guidelines and requests for proposals, interprets and communicates compliance and eligibility information to research faculty and staff.Maintains all close documentation for the department and the sub-awards.Interprets data for financial performance to develop and prepare financial reports for analysis, forecasting, and trending.Develops safeguards to ensure the integrity of grant administration or contracts and protects the University from financial losses.Identifies issues and resolves independently, anticipating roadblocks.Develops evaluation criteria for review of grant and contract applications.Develops timeline to meet submission deadlines and checklist of required documents.Provides guidance on staffing and budgetary requirements.Interacts directly with designated sponsor representatives to clarify terms and conditions.Identifies future funding opportunities and works with PI to identify research components.Acts as point of contact for all UMB parties and sponsors involved in the negotiation process.Maintains, identifies, and resolves any delinquent trainings and compliance requirements.May provide work coordination or oversight of others.Performs other duties as assigned.QualificationsEducation: Bachelor's degree. Master's degree preferred. Completion of a 12 credit Research Administration graduate certificate program can be considered for the equivalent of one (1) year of relevant research administration work experience.KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, and ABILITIES:Experience managing large federal grants (required); advanced knowledge of various software programs (e.g., Excel, Access, Kuali, eUMB, eRA Commons); knowledge of best practices in research administration.Outstanding organizational, problem-solving, negotiation, and critical thinking skills.Ability to prioritize multiple ongoing and new projects in a fast-paced academic environment.Ability to work cooperatively with others while maintaining a lead role.This position has direct reporting to the division director and dotted-line reporting to the department administrator.This position is eligible for up to two days telework.Hiring Range: $90,000 - $100,000 (commensurate with education and experience)UMB is an Equal Opportunity/Affirmative Action Employer.
