Boston University's Creative Services division is looking for an experienced, flexible Assistant Editor with uncompromising standards and outstanding attention to detail who will be responsible for providing editorial expertise for print and web content. The Assistant Editor supports the University's communications by ensuring printed materials and websites are of the highest quality and meet established editorial guidelines. The Assistant Editor works closely with University clients, the University Editor and members of Creative Services team, advising and consulting with them on matters of editorial content and organization, quality of expression and design integration. As a member of the editorial team, the Assistant Editor will need to shift priorities to accommodate urgent deadlines while maintaining unfailing accuracy. The Assistant Editor makes judgments on style and expression, accuracy, and conformity to University style. The Assistant Editor role requires strong written and verbal communication skills when working with clients to assist in content organization. Required Skills: A cover letter is required for consideration. BA/BS in English, journalism, or equivalent with a minimum of 3 to 5 years experience. Excellent grammar and web skills. Strong attention to detail. Strong organizational skills and the ability to manage multiple projects at once. Strong oral and written communication skills are essential to discuss project decisions with clients as well as process, content and editorial questions of style, accuracy, message clarity, content organization, and standards of editorial tone and expression with colleagues and clients. Ability to scrutinize original manuscript to ensure overall accuracy and a high standard of literacy and style, including a thorough knowledge of editing, grammar, and copyediting. Must work well under pressure, be organized, and be able to assume a high degree of responsibility in a fast-paced environment while paying close attention to detail. Ability to handle a high volume of work along with frequent interruptions. Expertise with various web platforms and content management systems are an advantage, including familiarity with WordPress.
