If you are considering sending an application, make sure to hit the apply button below after reading through the entire description.Job SummaryReporting to the Dean with dotted reporting lines to the Academic and Executive Deans, the Senior Associate Dean is a highly skilled education leader responsible for providing innovation and excellence in the leadership, management, and oversight of HGSE's degree programs (Ph.D., Ed.L.D., and residential and online master's degree programs) and student services and supports, which include Admissions, Financial Aid, and the Office of Student Affairs.The Senior Associate Dean will, in collaboration with other key faculty and staff stakeholders, lead the administrative team responsible for implementing a cohesive, expansive, and supportive model of student success that integrates academic and co-curricular services for approximately 1000-degree seekers annually.HGSE is a residential community supporting primarily on-campus degree program students along with faculty and staff. In contributing to our on-campus community, this position requires an on-campus presence four days per week with the possibility of additional flexibility during certain times of the year. Evening and weekend work may also be required either in person or remotely.Position DescriptionSchool and University EngagementAs a senior leader at HGSE, collaborates and works closely with the Dean's Office, members of the faculty, students, and other University and HGSE administrative offices to build, foster, and coordinate a culture of success across teams, ensuring all learner needs are met, critical information is shared with all relevant parties as appropriate, and the student experience at HGSE is exceptional.Attends and contributes to steering committees under academic affairs domains.Initiates, develops, and cultivates key relationships with faculty, staff, and students in order to effectively perform overall duties and responsibilities.Serves on School/University-wide committees and works on special projects as needed.Administrative Leadership and Coordination of Degree ProgramsWorks closely with the Deans, faculty, and staff across the school to develop strategies and support programs that position HGSE to attract, retain, and graduate highly qualified students and maintain the School's place as a leader in the field of education.Undertakes and oversees initiatives to fully integrate academic programs and student services to promote student success and advance the school's mission.Supports the degree program faculty directors in the continued development and implementation of program requirements/curriculum.Ensures the consistency of information, policies, process, and guidance across programs and supports.With team members and other units as needed, develops strategies to consistently evaluate our programs and services and make recommendations for continuous improvements.Administrative Leadership of Student ServicesWith direct reports, identifies and implements strategies that leverage synergies between admissions, financial aid, and student affairs.Supports students' personal, academic, and professional development, both via the team and via direct student counseling and advising on individual problems.In collaboration with direct reports, establishes standards and policies for defining a student's curricular and co-curricular experience.Provides high-level oversight of student progress reviews by supporting the doctoral and master's program Directors and Assistant Directors.Works closely with degree program faculty directors to understand opportunities for adjustment and improvement of curricular, co-curricular, and policy initiatives.Partners with relevant offices (e.g., HGSE Diversity, Equity, & Inclusion; Harvard Health Services; Harvard Housing; Graduate School of Arts & Sciences teams) to ensure accurate and timely information sharing in order to best support HGSE learners.As needed, leads and manages student crisis and highly sensitive issues that impact students across our campus and contribute to the University's broader strategy.Basic QualificationsAdvanced degree in education or a related fieldMinimum of 7+ years related experience including having worked with faculty and graduate studentsExperience providing student supports and services.Experience supervising and leading a team of talented staff.Additional Qualifications and SkillsDoctorate in Education preferred.Previous experience identifying and implementing innovative 21st century student support models.Excellent verbal/written communication skills.Demonstrated ability to motivate and lead staff.Excellent organizational skills.Excellent negotiating and analytical skills.Ability to work collaboratively across teams.Experience building and managing budgets.Ability to effectively identify and resolve difficult and sensitive human relations issues.Ability to maintain confidentiality.Exceptional feedback as a supervisor of staff.Comfort engaging in a wide variety of initiatives in a fast-paced environment.As needed, expected to work outside of normal business hours based on institutional and students' needs (e.g., critical situations that arise on the weekend) and special events (e.g., Commencement)Working ConditionsHGSE is currently developing dynamic workplace models which will actively support a combination of on-campus and remote work (within a state in which Harvard is registered to do business) where business and operational needs allow.
