Dia Art Foundation was established in 1974 for the purpose of collecting, commissioning, and presenting major works of art made from the 1960s onward. Today it consists of nine permanent sites across the United States and Germany, as well as three changing exhibition spaces in New York State: Dia Chelsea in the city, Dia Beacon in the Hudson Valley, and Dia Bridgehampton on Long Island. Dia is taken from the Greek word for "through" and conveys the foundation's role as a facilitator of meaningful artistic experiences that can be encountered in single and repeated visits.Have you got what it takes to succeed The following information should be read carefully by all candidates.Position summaryDia Art Foundation seeks an experienced Director of Marketing to join the team in an inaugural role: an exceptional professional with a demonstrated ability to develop and implement innovative and creative marketing strategies. The ideal candidate will be interested in and capable of engaging in nimble, out-of-the-box thinking, and will enjoy a collaborative and dynamic process. Possessing strong management and leadership skills, including adaptability and emotional intelligence, this candidate will demonstrate a passion for engaging in high-level strategic planning. The individual in this position will be responsible for the expansion and enhancement of the organization's current marketing practices to better optimize Dia's visibility and impact on current and untapped audiences.Working closely with the Senior Deputy Director and the Director of Communications to ensure seamless and integrated presentation of Dia to our many publics, the Director of Marketing is responsible for managing the development and execution of all digital content, social media, and advertising, and the innovation of new marketing approaches for Dia's exhibitions, programs, sites, special events, and other outreach efforts. The individual in this position engages in collaborative discussions and provides counsel and advice across the organization on how to raise Dia's overall visibility and enhance public awareness of the breadth of Dia's locations and sites. The Director of Marketing supervises the Social Media Specialist, Marketing Associate, Communications and Marketing Assistant, and Graphic Design Assistant. The Director of Marketing works closely with staff from other departments, and reports to Dia's Senior Deputy Director.Job duties and responsibilitiesLead the institutional development of a comprehensive and enhanced marketing strategy across all areas of digital content, brand management, and advertising.Maintain vigilant awareness of relevant indicators of success in marketing campaigns; define success criteria, identify current and future needs, and ensure intentional and effective approaches.Create, implement, and oversee timelines and goals, both short- and long-term, for advertising, marketing, social media, and all other digital content.Supervise and work closely with direct reports to align priorities and goals, and manage ongoing performance and annual evaluations.Oversee the department's digital communications, including developing and managing content for the website, blog, and social media, working in partnership with the Director of Communications and IT on applicable deliverables.Develop a creative, fiscally conservative, and collaborative cross-marketing approach with advertisers and community, regional, and state partners to maximize marketing dollars and multiply messaging opportunities.Commission and oversee the production of video content for social media, website, and other channels.Establish close relationships with tourist resources across Dia's locations and sites with particular focus on New York City and New York State.In collaboration with the Curatorial, Learning and Engagement, and Visitor Experience teams as well as the Director of Communications, establish and maintain strong relationships with key stakeholders across Dia's locations and sites.Coordinate across Dia's program leaders to ensure alignment on upcoming projects, exhibitions, and priorities throughout marketing initiatives and overall strategy.In collaboration with the Chief Operating Office, Director of Visitor Experience, and department leaders, develop strategies for increasing visitorship and retail returns, as well as refining and analyzing survey metrics.In collaboration with the Development department and Membership team, work to enhance Dia's membership program's visibility and appeal.Provide Trustees, Director, and senior management with comprehensive analytics and data-based context pertaining to all elements of marketing and advertisement strategies.Coordinate with visitor services to maintain updated program information and develop market research across locations and sites as needed.Ensure that Dia's original digital content and external/internal marketing materials are aligned with our values of diversity, equity, inclusion, and accessibility.Develop and maintain departmental budget.Other duties and responsibilitiesRemain apprised of developments at other cultural institutions and best practices in the field including current marketing approaches.Confer with other departments, as needed, to manage the institutional aesthetic and graphic identity across public-facing and internal materials.Education, certification, and experienceBachelor's degree in business, marketing, advertising, digital media, or a related field; master's degree preferred.Minimum of seven years of strategic marketing experience at a cultural institution or public relations firm, and at least three years of supervisory experience.Knowledge, skills, and abilitiesAdvanced knowledge of contemporary marketing strategies and trends for arts organizations/museums.Ability to gather, analyze, and present data findings with clarity.Strong critical-thinking and strategic abilities.Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, under time constraints.Excellent project-management and decision-making skills.Experience managing staff effectively and working collaboratively with teams.Strong interpersonal skills; individual must be personable and diplomatic in working with Dia's Board of Trustees, staff, and the general public.Advanced knowledge of Microsoft Excel, Outlook, Word, social media tools, and data analytics platforms.Familiarity with Dia (its artists, collection, and history) a significant plus.Working conditions and physical demandsWork is performed in a hybrid environment with no fewer than three days per week in the Chelsea office.Working additional hours and attending evening and weekend events, as needed, is a requirement of this position.Typically, prolonged periods of sitting and use of computers and standard office equipment is required to accomplish work objectives.Occasional travel will be required.Dia provides a competitive salary and comprehensive benefits package with significant employer contributions toward the cost of healthcare premiums.
