The Office of Admissions seeks part-time application reviewers to contribute to the work of the admissions team. Application Reviewers are responsible for working in conjunction with admissions staff to evaluate applications for admission and make recommendations to the Admissions Committee. Applications are reviewed electronically and, except for any mandatory in-person training, work may be conducted remotely (if performed in an eligible state: Maine, Maryland, Massachusetts, New Hampshire, New York, North Carolina, and Virginia).Read the overview of this opportunity to understand what skills, including and relevant soft skills and software package proficiencies, are required.The Application Reviewer will work in pairs with admissions staff to review student applications as part of a larger committee of admissions professionals. All work will happen between the hours of 8:30-5:00 Monday through Friday. Application Reviewers will read with staff members from one to three days a week December through February.All admissions staff are expected to embrace Bowdoin's commitment to diversity and inclusion. Ability to apply critical thinking skills and independently form judgments.Exceptional oral and written communication skills.Ability to meet deadlines. Excellent time management.General technological fluency. Ability to use computer technology systems (as trained).Strong internet connection (where/when conducting work, if remote).Ability to manage highly sensitive information and comply with confidentiality policies.Ability to work closely with colleagues on time-sensitive matters; strong inter-personal communication skills.Candidates may not currently work in a college counseling capacity - in a school or organizational setting; as an independent consultant or private college counselor; or in another capacity where they provide advising on the college admissions process.Experience Requirements and/or EquivalentsThe ideal candidate possesses an understanding and enthusiasm for higher education, as well as an appreciation for high school students from a variety of backgrounds and cultures across the country and around the world.The ideal candidate embraces Bowdoin's mission as an institution and has an appreciation for the liberal arts.The ideal candidate has one or more years of experience reviewing applications for higher education institutions (or in a corollary setting).Candidates with experience in education (secondary or higher education) or another relevant educational setting are especially welcomed.This position is subject to confidentiality agreements and policies.This position is subject to a criminal history background check.Standard Work Days and HoursApplication Reviewers work from December through mid-March, with most significant work in January and February. Application reviewers will not work the weeks of December 23 and December 30.Application review generally occurs on weekdays between the hours of 8:30 am and 5 p.m. On rare occasions, application reviewers may be asked for work availability in evenings or on weekends.Application reviewers must be able to commit to a minimum of 7-8 hours per week, with a maximum of 20 hours per week.
