We are seeking a high-capacity, humble, and growth-oriented Dean of Instruction - Literacy to support teachers' growth, with a special focus on schoolwide literacy instruction.Job OverviewReporting directly to the Assistant Principal, the Dean of Instruction - Literacy is a member of the School Leadership Team (SLT) and works closely with the Instructional Leadership Team (ILT) and Multi-Tiered Systems of Support (MTSS) Team. The Dean of Instruction - Literacy is in a key leadership position for all literacy and social studies teachers in grades K-8, with specific responsibilities outlined below. This is a year-round position.Key Job ResponsibilitiesDevelops and implements a clear vision for instructional excellence in literacy/humanities across all grades (K-8)Analyzes and selects rigorous, Common Core Standard-aligned curriculum; updates as neededPlans and leads high-quality professional development aligned to the vision of excellenceSupervises and coaches portfolio of teachers to reach proficiency on GLA's teaching rubric, including metrics aligned to both rigorous instruction and classroom cultureLeads data analysis and action planning for K-8 literacy, including analyzing student growth and achievement and supporting teachers with data-driven instructionWorks with the SLT and ILT to develop, implement and maintain every detail of the school's systems and procedures, including homework, discipline, transitions, entrance and exit, community celebrations, morning meetings, and classroom culture so that GLA is structured and joyfulWorks with the MTSS team to analyze student progress and drive implementation of high-quality intervention plansLeads all literacy and social studies programming in the school, including organizing interim assessments, literacy initiatives, incentive systems, and school-wide academic eventsHolds staff accountable to results, including holding difficult conversations that drive learning and changeCreates daily coverage plans and supports school coverage needs in the absence of teachersIdeal QualificationsAt least four years of teaching experience, preferably in a low-income school, with a track record of student successExperienced teacher coach with track record of growing instructors in lesson planning, curriculum development, data analysis, classroom management, and lesson executionDeep knowledge of and enthusiasm for the teacher "taxonomies" per Teach Like a Champion (TLAC) and for elementary and middle school literacy curriculaStrong communicator and relationship builder with adults, including all staff, student families, and community partnersDemonstrated leadership skills - highly organized and efficient, strategic, empathetic, good communicator, adaptable, solution and execution-oriented, self-motivated, self-aware, and humbleFlexible and team-oriented; willing to work with the admin team to support in areas of need in the schoolPrioritizes student achievement as highest goalCommitted to serving students of color on the South Side of ChicagoMinimum QualificationsBachelor's degree is requiredSome teaching experienceSome experience coaching teachersEligibility to work in the United States on a full-time basisValid IL Professional Educator License (PEL) preferred, but not requiredBenefitsTuition reimbursement available for candidates earning their PEL, LBS1, and/or ESL endorsementComprehensive medical, dental, and visionFSA (Flexible Spending Account) and DCA (Dependent Care Account)Lifestyle Reimbursement Account, $150 towards wellness (physical, mental/emotional, and financial)Paid STD, LTD, and life insuranceVoluntary benefits include critical illness and accident insurance403(b) and pension retirement plansStaff wellness program with mental health, legal support, and financial counselingFree student breakfasts and lunches provided for staff dailyOpportunities to earn additional stipends for leading after-school enrichment, sports programming, and more!As an equal opportunity employer, Great Lakes Academy hires without consideration to race, religion, creed, color, national origin, age, gender, sexual orientation, marital status, veteran status, disability, or any other category protected by applicable law#J-18808-Ljbffr
