The department offers a Ph.D. in Teacher Education and Learning Sciences with specializations in Educational Equity; Educational Psychology; Elementary Education; Learning, Design, and Technology; Literacy and English Language Arts Education; and Social Studies Education.Position Description/General Scope of DutiesThe Department Head for Teacher Education and Learning Sciences (TELS) is a leader who sets the strategic direction for the department, in support of the vision and mission of the college and the university. The Department Head provides leadership to faculty and staff in the department by supporting and building community, and also by providing a vision for programming growth and improvement. The Department Head oversees all administrative matters and departmental processes, which may include, and are not limited to, faculty recruitment and professional development, faculty evaluation, faculty mentoring, promotion and tenure, program development, program review, curriculum development, program enrollment, student advisement and development, class schedule planning, and general supervision of the teaching, research, and service and related scholarly activities of the department.A Department Head reports to the Dean of the College and exercises supervision of the faculty and staff of the department. The Head also participates in the college leadership team.Supervisory DutiesSupervisory positions conduct interviews, make final hiring decisions, provide salary recommendations, monitor and assign work, counsel and discipline employees under direct supervision, develop work plans and conduct performance appraisals for permanent employees.
