Job DescriptionIn order to make an application, simply read through the following job description and make sure to attach relevant documents.NBC and Telemundo San Diego are looking for an Assignment Editor to play a key position in a multi-platform content environment. You will be responsible for facilitating newsgathering and comprehensive coverage of news stories.Job Responsibilities:Develop and source interesting story ideas, using editorial judgment, coordinating interviews and logistics for field crewsKnow what stories are being covered, who is covering and what platforms the story will air onMaintain contact with law enforcement, fire and other agencies to determine coverage of spot newsLead editorial meetings, contribute story ideas and be responsible for developing and cultivating contacts important to news coverage in the San Diego areaMaintain an accurate account of the day's events in the Assignment Desk computer systemsAbility to search for user-generated contentRoute personal matters (i.e. sick calls, etc) to the appropriate managerMaintain responsibility for feed and live signal intake and supervise daily beat checksUpdate news stories on various platforms including websites and social mediaAssign photographers to reporters and communicate changes and other needed information to them in the fieldKnowledge of newsroom automation systems, online storage, and computer languages or equivalent work experienceWorking knowledge of media acquisition and IP transmission systemsExperience with microwave, satellite and cellular bonded technologyQualifications:Minimum of two years experience as an Assignment Editor in a mid to major marketMust be technically competent, have the ability to learn and use newsroom systems as they develop, have proficiency in Microsoft Office suiteGeneral knowledge of television news techniques, including how stories should be covered and assembledAbility to multitask and make quick decisions under pressureExperience with coordinating and pulling in satellite feeds and signalsExcellent communication and interpersonal skillsStrong organizational skills.Strong social media and multi-platform knowledge.Preferred Qualifications:Bachelor's degree or relevant job experience required.Bilingual (Spanish)Demonstrable knowledge of state and federal court procedures.Familiarity with web-based research requiredAbility to communicate effectively and work well with people while under pressureFamiliarity with local leaders is a plusUp to date on and interested in current news eventsKnowledge of laws of libel, slander and applicable FCC rules and regulations.Personal initiative and ability to work with minimum supervision.Team player who is flexibleDisplays a positive work ethic and can work under tight deadlinesHigh degree of integrity and professionalismEligibility Requirements:Interested candidates must submit a resume/CV through the siteMust be willing to work at the station in San Diego locationMust have unrestricted work authorization to work in the United StatesMust have valid drivers licenseMust have ability to work any of a 24x7 shiftAdditional Requirements:Required On-Site: This position is required to be performed full-time from an NBCUniversal-designated worksite.This position is eligible for company sponsored benefits, including medical, dental and vision insurance, 401(k), paid leave, tuition reimbursement, and a variety of other discounts and perks.
