Specific courses that this person could teach include, but are not limited to, The California Experience, American Social History, The Multiracial History of America, and Native American History. The successful candidate will have an active research agenda that focuses on Indigenous epistemologies and methodologies.Candidates whose work focuses on Native American histories are encouraged to apply. Areas of expertise may include cultural and/or political sovereignty, gender, oral traditions, public memory and preservation, and community histories.The successful candidate will demonstrate the potential to produce scholarly works commensurate with the requirements for tenure and promotion. Faculty are expected to contribute to and participate in the life and development of the department, advise students, serve on committees, and participate in the broader university and disciplinary communities.Required QualificationsPh.D. in History or related field (e.g., Native American Studies, Ethnic Studies, American Studies) with an emphasis in Native American Studies or a related field; Ph.D. required by time of appointment.A strong foundation and training in Native American histories.A commitment to providing high-quality education.Potential for and/or demonstrated ability to teach students with diverse backgrounds at the undergraduate and graduate level.Potential for and/or evidence of scholarship related to Native American histories.Preferred QualificationsA research agenda that focuses on Indigenous epistemologies and methodologies.Experience working collaboratively with local community organizations.Knowledge of indigenous languages relevant to their research, teaching and community engagement.Community-based research, project-centered teaching, public/digital humanities, and/or a research and teaching trajectory that centers social justice.Demonstrated commitment to equity and inclusion in teaching, scholarship, and/or service.Expertise in one or more of the following areas: cultural and/or political sovereignty, gender, oral traditions, public memory and preservation, and community histories.ApplicationA complete online application must be received by electronic submission to be considered.
