CST on the closing date. A-State participates in E-Verify.Position Summary:Arkansas State University seeks a dynamic, innovative, and strategic leader to serve as Dean of the Graduate School. Reporting to the Executive Vice Chancellor and Provost, this pivotal position will act as the chief advisor and liaison for graduate education while leading the Provost's initiative to grow the diverse graduate programs of the university. The ideal candidate will have experience securing and assisting faculty in obtaining external funding from national granting agencies (e.g., the Department of Defense, Department of Education, National Endowment for the Arts, National Endowment for the Humanities, National Institutes of Health, National Aeronautics and Space Administration, and the National Science Foundation).Duties & Responsibilities:The Dean is the principal administrative and academic officer of the Graduate School and reports to the Executive Vice Chancellor and Provost. The new Dean will:Direct and implement strategic and aspirational planning for the Graduate School.Foster collaborative relationships with all on- and off-campus stakeholders serving and being served by graduate programs.Lead and champion the growth, development, quality, and continuation of graduate programs and graduate education at A-State.Operationalize and manage budget, office staff, and degree evaluation.Cultivate progressive academic and administrative policies related to graduate education, while enforcing campus practices and procedures to streamline Graduate School processes.Oversee and chair the Graduate Council.Engage with university constituents, including alumni, to enhance A-State's growing stature in the state, region, and nation as we continue to expand nationally competitive academic programs through a comprehensive recruiting strategy.Coordinate and strengthen international graduate student recruitment and admissions.Assist potential graduate students in securing fellowships funded by federal funding agencies.Support the expansion of online graduate programs as appropriate.Recruit, retain, and promote success of a diverse and representative graduate student body.Other duties as assigned.Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:A proven track record of teaching and mentoring graduate students. Demonstrated engagement in competitively funded research. Demonstrated ability to foster a positive and collegial environment through a collaborative leadership style. Ability to provide leadership by partnering with undergraduate research organizations and cross-disciplinary graduate programs; strong commitment to teach and research excellence. Ability to form strong partnerships with alumni and the community (industry, medical, banks, school districts, etc.) in collaboration with the deans of the respective colleges. Familiarity with research development and grantsmanship, and experience in and commitment to working with academic deans in fundraising.General Days/Hours:Monday - Friday 8:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m. Additional hours as requested and/or needed Regular and reliable attendanceOther:Preferred qualifications: A rank of full professor or higher with tenure from a Carnegie classified research institution. Experience supervising and mentoring masters and doctoral students. Knowledge of latest national graduate trends and best practices. Experience with specialized academic accreditations and research compliance.Minimum Qualifications:Experience in large graduate and doctoral program leadership and administration. A rank of an advanced associate professor with tenure from a Carnegie classified research institution. At least 5 years of executive administrative experience, a demonstrated record of effective leadership, and budgetary proficiency. A robust research record.
