WHAT IS THE INDEPENDENT OFFICE OF APPEALS (AP) DIVISION?All potential applicants are encouraged to scroll through and read the complete job description before applying.A description of the business units can be found at:Vacancies will be filled in the following specialty areas:Independent Office of AppealsCase and Operations SupportSpecialized Exam Prog and RefCollection AppealsExamination AppealsThe following are the duties of this position at the full working level:Holds conferences and negotiates issues with taxpayers/representatives to resolve tax disputes in a fair and impartial manner. Taxpayers are often officers of publicly traded companies and representatives are typically from the most prestigious national law and accounting firms.Advises and coaches team members regarding their team assignments. Provides appropriate and substantive feedback on team assignments to the team member and his/her immediate manager.Communicates and fosters dialogue with peers, customers, and partners. Leads several teams that work cases and coaches individual employees in the accomplishment of team objectives and effective problem solving.RequirementsTelework Eligible Positions: Telework eligible positions do not guarantee telework. Employees must meet and sustain IRS telework eligibility requirements (e.g., reporting at least twice a pay period to your assigned Post of Duty (POD)) and supervisor's approval to participate in the IRS Telework Program.Must be a U.S. Citizen or National and provide proof of U.S. Citizenship.Must successfully complete a background investigation, including a FBI criminal history record check (fingerprint check).Employment of any candidate selected for this position may be conditional on classification and/or audit of federal tax returns (may include up to 2 years of returns).QualificationsFederal experience is not required. You must meet the following requirements by the closing date of this announcement:SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE: GS-07:You must have at least one year of specialized experience at a level of difficulty and responsibility equivalent to the GS-05 grade level in the Federal service. Specialized experience for this position includes: Experience with business issues & practices, basic accounting principles, and demonstrates knowledge of tax laws and regulations.OR One year of graduate education in a related field of study such as: business administration, finance, accounting, auditing, taxation, law or other related fields.OR Superior Academic Achievement may be met by having a Bachelor's degree, with a GPA of 3.0 or higher on a 4.0 scale.SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE: GS-09:You must have at least one year of specialized experience at a level of difficulty and responsibility equivalent to the GS-07 grade level in the Federal service.SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE: GS-11:Specialized experience for this position includes: One (1) year of specialized experience at a level of difficulty and responsibility equivalent to the GS-09 grade level in the Federal service.SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE: GS-12:To be eligible for this position at this grade level, you must meet the requirements below.SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE: GS-13:To be eligible for this position at this grade level, you must meet the requirements below.SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE: GS-14:You must have 1 year of specialized experience at a level of difficulty and responsibility equivalent to the GS-13 grade level in the Federal service.SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE: GS-15:You must have 1 year of specialized experience at a level of difficulty and responsibility equivalent to the GS-14 grade level in the Federal service.FOREIGN EDUCATION: Education completed in foreign colleges or universities may be used to meet the requirements.Additional informationA 1-year probationary period is required.Have your salary sent to a financial institution of your choice by Direct Deposit/Electronic Funds Transfer.This is a bargaining unit position.Tour of Duty: Day Shift - Start and stop times between 6:00 a.m. and 6:00 p.m.Vacancies filled under this public notice may have varying full working levels and/or supervisory levels.A career with the U.S. government provides employees with a comprehensive benefits package.Required DocumentsThe following documents are required and must be provided with your application:Online Application - QuestionnaireEducation - See Education Section aboveHigh School Diploma (or equivalent)How to ApplyThis Direct Hire Public Notice is to gather applications that may or may not result in a referral or selection.
