About the Company A well-established commercial real estate firm is seeking a Senior Property Controller to manage the financial operations of a portfolio of commercial office properties. This role is ideal for someone with strong accounting expertise, commercial property experience, and proficiency in MRI or Yardi. The firm offers a collaborative work environment with opportunities to work across departments on high-impact financial processes. The Role The Senior Property Controller will oversee year-end close, financial reporting, reconciliations, and tenant escalations across a portfolio of 10 commercial properties. The ideal candidate is an experienced real estate accountant who thrives in a dynamic, multi-property environment, can handle complex reconciliations, and is comfortable interfacing with auditors, tenants, and internal stakeholders. Key Responsibilities Lead year-end close and prepare year-end financial statements. Perform monthly and quarterly bank reconciliations (approximately 5 per month). Collaborate with other departments on monthly and quarterly financial statements and general ledger maintenance. Manage the month-end and quarterly close process, including accruals, expense adjustments, and reconciliations. Oversee tenant escalations and operating expense billing reconciliations across 10 commercial properties. Handle year-end close and bank reconciliations for four properties within the portfolio. Assist with lease administration, including reconciling contract payments for property improvements and renovations. Support external audits, ensuring compliance and accurate financial reporting. Work on ad hoc financial projects as needed. Qualifications Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field is required. CPA is a plus. 5+ years of accounting experience in commercial real estate (NYC or DC market preferred). Experience with MRI or Yardi is strongly preferred. Strong knowledge of tenant escalations, operating expense reconciliations, and property-level accounting. Ability to manage multiple properties and collaborate across departments.
