The Senior Director of Engineering focuses on the development of: Project Proposals, Project Plans, Engineering Resources (people, organization, systems and equipment) and develops and maintains internal (marketing, operations, finance, human resources, quality, etc.) and external relationships (consultants, vendors, customers, etc.), appropriate to technical and business aspects of the business. This role is responsible for: the development and maintenance of engineering and technical knowledge of products and services (past and existing), the development of new technology to support Marketing, Sales, Operations and Quality opportunities, and the use of engineering and technology to attain optimized reliability, quality, cost and time to marketMinimum Required QualificationsBachelor's degree in engineering15 (minimum)-20 years' relevant work experience in a high technology, electro-mechanical environment (Aerospace and Military)Demonstrated leadership and high-performing team building experience in EngineeringExperience with system designExperience with government contractual procurement procedures, standards and quality requirementsExemplary verbalwritten communication skills required for multi-faceted interactions with all levels of personnel within the organization, as well as all outside agents, including but not limited to, vendors, suppliers, customers, potential job candidates, etc.Highly computer literate, with MS OfficePC expertise, and demonstrated experience with applicable systems, programs, equipment, etc.Direct experience dealing with primes who support the US Navy such as Electric Boat and Newport News.Essential Or Primary Key Responsibilities In conjunction with Marketing, Sales, Customer and Prospects, identify engineering needs to exploit current and new market opportunitiesTeam with Business Development to engage customers, shape requirements and win new business.Work with the Operations and Quality functional areas to optimize quality, reliability and costsEvolve and develop the Engineering Organization to meet business needs and provide for personnel development and retention of key personnelGenerate proposals, program costing, operational efficiencies and effectiveness (cost reduction) programs and manage project tracking and reportingServes as an expert technical resource in the application of existing, new and advanced engineering theories, concepts, principles and processesHelps interpret customermarketing requirements for the purpose of generating technicalproduct specifications to meet customer needsMeet constantly changing requirements in an organized fashion to meet stringent design requirements, delivery dates, and cost goals with very high-quality productsActively participate in the development of Marotta business and engineering strategy to achieve company financial and business goalsManage and maintain a viable Research and Development FunctionDevelop, manage and maintain engineering knowledge, expertise, and internal and external resources to support past, current and developing products and services. Recommend changes and suggest new programsPrepare Engineering Proposals, Estimates and Project Plans to meet customer requirements or internal needs.Monitor the progress of Projects, take action to keep on track (time, money, quality) and adjust when neededProvide information to internal and external customers on project progress and latest expectationsDevelop and maintain applicable systems for developing, documenting, maintaining engineering product and specifications and background in a secure, accessible and effective manner.Recruit, hire, orient, manage, develop, motivate, recognize, reward and where necessary discipline and terminate personnelAddress potential issues proactively and apply real-time problem solving skills to achieve prompt resolution. Continually address improvement opportunitiesDevelop external relationships with customers, consultants and vendors to extend the engineering competencies and resources to address Marotta business needs.Prepare and manage project and department budgetsAllocate resources, materials and the scheduling of equipment for maximum utilization of production facilities and personnel, as requiredDevelop and manage internal and external Engineering resourcesManage training requirements of applicable internal team members (and external, when applicable). Facilitate training, as needed, to maintain a cross-trained workforce and to support operational goals and objectivesDevelop and manage internal and external Engineering resourcesAdditional Duties ResponsibilitiesBring initiatives and activities to closure in a timely manner through effective interaction with individuals, both internal and external to the Marotta organization (as required)Continue work seamlessly while traveling on company business (i.e. conduct work using mobile devices, from hotels, while at trade shows, andor across varying time zones when necessary)Ensure self, direct reports (if applicable), and personnel company-wide, are abiding by all safety, quality, housekeeping and company policiesprocedures to ensure compliance to all regulatory and internal system requirements.Foster a positive and cooperative work environment through effective communication at all levels internal and external to the organizationLead, andor actively participate in team meetings, improvement initiativesprograms, etc. to provide constructive recommendations and initiate actions to support company initiativesgoalsConsistently demonstrate commitment to company valuesKeep management informed of area activities and of any significant problems.Assume responsibility for related duties as required or assigned.Ensure that work area is clean, secure, and well plete special projects and miscellaneous assignments as requiredWork EnvironmentWhile performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently exposed to conditions typical of a manufacturingmachine shop environment, including, but not limited to fluids, fumes or airborne particles, moving mechanical parts, noise and vibrationThis job interacts both in a professional office environment and a manufacturingmachine shop environment. This role uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, filing cabinets and fax machines, as well as environments inclusive of the appropriate eye, hearing and foot protection (as required).This is a full-time position. Days and hours of work are 8 hours, Monday through Friday. Overtime and weekend work are required, as job duties demand.Local and non-local travel is required for this position (25-35%)Physical RequirementsWhile performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to see, talk, and hear.The employee is frequently required to reach with hands and arms, and to use hands to finger, handle or feel.The employee is regularly required to stand, sit, walk, and move about the facility.The employee may be required to lift, push, pull andor move items weighing up to 20 pounds This position is at our Parsippany, NJ office location.Many of our contracts require proof that you are a U.S. citizen andor that an export license has been obtained for employees who are citizens of certain countries.
