Teaching Position Summary Alexander Twilight Academy is currently hiring summer teachers who will be responsible for instructing rising 6th, 7th, 8th andor 9th graders. Our four content areas are science, ELA, history, and math. Teachers also serve as an advisor and lead an elective of their choosing. Previous electives ranged from journalism to game design and coding to basketball, and more.Teachers will work with the Associate Director of Middle School Programs, the Assistant Director of Middle School Programs, other teachers, and staff to create a welcoming, academically rigorous, and engaging environment for all students in the program.Dates and Timing: Mandatory Summer Pre-WorkVirtual PD Session - Wednesday, June 11 6:00-8:30 pm on ZoomIn-Person PD Day - Monday, June 30th 8:00 am to 4:00 pmCreate syllabus, week 1 lesson plans, and unit plan by June 27thSummer Program DatesMonday-Friday 7:40am to 4:00pm Tuesday, July 1st to Friday, August 8th (with a July 4th holiday closure). Required staff close out days on Monday, August 11th and Tuesday, August 12th Location: Boston, MA Core Qualities of an Alexander Twilight Academy Educator Firm commitment to educational access, equity, and social justice Dedication to working with students from under-resourced backgroundsDesire to cultivate authentic relationships with students and familiesBelief that all students can be successful given the right supportsTrack record of student achievement and growth Intellectually curious and passionate about teaching material from their area of expertise Desire to grow personally and professionally Growth mindset for self and students Commitment to collaborating with others Responsibilities Lead 2-4 classes of approximately 15-20 students dailyLead an elective that meets twice a week Create a unit plan and one-page syllabuscourse overview due prior to the start of the Summer Program (date due: June 27th) Submit weekly lesson plans and materials due each Friday at noon Prepare daily student-centered, discussion-based lesson plans Attend mandatory staff meetings prior to the start of the Summer Leadership Program and also once weekly during the summerMaintain a gradebook which is shared with Associate Director of Middle School Programs the Assistant Director of Middle School ProgramsQualifications and Experience At least 2 years of teaching experience required (preferred grade level experience: 6th-12th) Demonstrated leadership capabilities, including classroom management and team building skills Experience implementing differentiated teaching strategies Spanish or Haitian Creole proficiency is a plus.
