Insight Global is looking for a GIS Technician to sit in Lutz, FL (north Tampa area) with any interest in learning the electrical power distribution & utilities engineering industry. Must have ArcGIS experience (professional or educational). This a 4 month contract-to-hire, meaning you will be converted full time (which includes PTO, Holiday Pay, etc.) after 4 months!The GIS Technician will work with Designers, Engineers, and Senior Engineers. The GIS Technician will support the maintenance and operation of client's mapping and GIS applications by maintaining, reporting, and posting work or by gathering data to be inputted by others. This position will be expected to function independently with limited professional and technical supervision. This position may require contact with client engineers and management. This position is subject to supervision of progress, quality, and production. They will be responsible for maintaining, and posting work or by gathering data to be input by others. They will be taught to read and interpret design drawings of utility poles. They will generate and maintain the GIS- generated operations maps and accumulate and assemble all information needed.Minimum Requirements:Ability to work in-office, 40 hours a week, typical daytime hours (such as M-F 8am-5pm with some possible flexibility)Completed Bachelor Degree (Geography, Photometry, GIS, Environmental Sciences, Mapping, or any related field of study to GIS preferred) - OR - Associates Degree plus 3 years of professional GIS experience1 year of professional, internship, or educational coursework experience relating to GIS (geographymappingetc.)Experience with the GIS related softwaretool ArgGIS; any of the following is a plus: ArcMap, 3GIS, AutoCAD, etc.Strong computer literacy: will be taught to read and interpret design drawings of utility poles to generate and maintain GIS-generated operations mapsInterest in a career in electrical power distribution & utilities design engineering, and interest in learning utility terminology (transformers, kilowatts, voltages, etc.
