Our client is a leading institution committed to excellence in education, research, and community service. We are seeking a skilled Payroll Tax Controller to join our team and ensure the integrity of our payroll tax processes while fostering compliance and collaboration across departments and external agencies. Overview:The Payroll Tax Controller will oversee all aspects of payroll tax management, ensuring timely and accurate processing, compliance with federal, state, and local tax regulations, and effective coordination with institutional stakeholders and external entities. This role requires a strategic leader with deep expertise in payroll systems, tax compliance, and project management. Key Responsibilities: Oversee the accurate and timely processing of institutional payroll, ensuring compliance with all applicable tax laws and regulations. Manage payroll tax withholdings, including benefits, retirement contributions, and charitable deductions, ensuring accuracy and alignment with policy. Lead projects to resolve payroll tax challenges, enhance compliance, and implement process improvements. Monitor and analyze business intelligence reports to provide actionable insights and recommendations. Develop, update, and maintain clear standard operating procedures for payroll tax operations. Design and implement systems to eliminate single points of failure, enhancing operational resilience. Collaborate with departments such as Human Resources, Student Employment, and Computer Services, as well as external entities including state payroll offices, the IRS, and the Social Security Administration. Qualifications: Bachelor's degree required, preferably in business, finance, accounting, or a related field. Extensive experience managing payroll systems, both internal platforms and third-party vendors. Proven expertise in payroll tax compliance and executive compensation payroll practices. Familiarity with tax equalization policies, hypothetical tax calculations, and mobility payroll tax practices. Strong leadership abilities, with excellent communication and analytical skills to drive team success. Demonstrated ability to work effectively with diverse stakeholders, including institutional departments and government agencies. Preferred Skills: Experience in a higher education or large institutional setting. Proficiency in business intelligence tools and process documentation.
