Maximum attempts is 2: Required for: Ambulance Transport, Cardiac Cath Lab, ICU, CVICU, EP Lab, ER, Helicopter Transport (Flight), House Supervisor, PACU/Recovery, PCU, PICU, Pre-op/PACU, Stepdown, Telemetry/IMC, Transitional ICU/TCU units. (4 facilities total) about 30 mins apart, can be floated midshift DAY 1 PASS FAIL EXAM: STUDY GUIDE PROVIDED WIH FDI PASS FAIL SIMs Lab: All RNs will be expected to complete SIMs Lab for Foley catheter insertion & central line dressing changes, with the exception of NyICU & ED. NyICU only has to do Foley catheter insertion. ED does Foley catheter insertion but does port-a-cath insertion instead of central line dressing change. This is for travelers going to St. Joseph main campus &/or St. Joseph Westgate campus. NOTE - SIMs lab is pass/fail & nurses have been termed during SIMs Lab for breaking sterile field. Those travelers that understand sterile field typically pass SIMs Lab skills (See separate notes for the specific checklist IF traveler asks for additional details). The hospital expects that every nurse is competent in these areas, especially maintaining sterile field, as these are nursing skills that are performed frequently. NOTE: if a candidate indicates that they are not competent in either of these areas, they are probably not a good fit. In addition to SIMs Lab, they will also go through lifts, restraints, & wound care, but these are just educational based since the equipment & policies can be different facility to facility. Unit: ED / Trauma # beds: Acute - 36 and Subacute - 54. Trauma bays - 6 (no travelers) Ratios: 1:4 ratio Shifts: 7a-7p, 7p-7a, 11a-11p, 1p-1a Weekend Requirement: 4 weekend shifts per month, at unit discretion Floor specific orientation: 2-3 shifts on the floor Common diagnosis / Types of patients: Trauma, Burns and Peds transferred out. CP Center, Spinal Cord TBIN certification. 88,000 patients per year, per day Additional Notes: 30-40 psych holds. 2 years ER experience.;12 hour nights, 4 total weekend shifts per 4 weeks, 2 out of 3 major holidays Unit Specific Information Preferred Certs: TNCC and ATCN ENPC not allowed to replace PALS Cert Additional Details Float within ER. Charge Nurse: 2 Charge RNs - will task or have light patient load. Nurse Aides: 4-PCTs for sitters. Tele: Phillips monitors, must be able to read strips. Vents: Managed by RT Hospitalist or Intensivists in house: Minimum of 2 MDs or as many as 8. Midlevels also utilized. Anesthesia IV Team: Core RNs are US trained. RT 24/7: Yes Pharmacy 24/7: Yes, Pharmacist in ER 10hrs/day
