However, this position is permitted to work at a Southfield, Michigan office location if requested by the team memberDesign and develop software and improve existing code to make it more efficient to detect bugs in the codeWrite unit-tests and validate your software against acceptance criteriaAuthor, apply and advocate for team coding, documenting and testing standardsConduct impact analysis to proactively identify impact of a change across multiple applicationsLearn the business process domain to better support the businessExperiment and test ideas, validate assumptions against needs, reach conclusions and recommend solutionsLead code reviews and communicate application changesDocument code and projects so others can easily understand, maintain and supportDebug the problems which arise in production and propose effective solutions within the application and across multiple applicationsRead, write and review design documentsContribute to team's sprint commitments and actively participate in our Agile practicesLead continuous learning activities to improve design and code quality as well as to increase application domain knowledgeParticipate in the talent selection processGuide and review the code, designs and documentation of less experienced software engineersCompetencies: The following items detail how you will be successful in this roleCustomer Empathy: Customer Empathy is the ability to understand the perspectives, pain points, and experiences of customers. As an owner, you understand the business and your domain(s) deeply and solve for the right outcome for the domain(s) and the business.Requirements:Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, or closely related field of study; or equivalent work experienceMinimum 5 years of software engineering experience or comparable depth of experienceStrong understanding and use of one or more object-oriented programming languages and design patterns. 4+ years of recent enterprise Java 8+ development of highly loaded cloud servicesStrong proficiency in software engineering principles, microservice architecture, code and system design patterns.Strong understanding and use of one or more object-oriented programming languages and design patternsPractical experience in Software Development Life Cycle (SDLC) including AgileSCRUM and WaterfallAbility to write and maintain comprehensive technical documentation and advocate your design in front of senior membersPractical experience in data modeling, design and messagingExperience working on mission-critical enterprise class applicationsDemonstrated ability to coach and mentor less experienced team membersWillingness to participate in an on-call rotationPreferred Qualifications:Master's degree in Computer Science or related field10+ years of software engineering experience, including 5+ years leading cross-functional teams and driving technical initiativesExperience transitioning from monolithicSOA systems to scalable, resilient microservicesExpertise in API design, optimization, and security for high-throughput, low-latency environmentsExtensive experience with Java and GraalVM frameworks (e.g., Quarkus, Micronaut), along with proficiency in additional languages like Golang, Kotlin, C++, or Rust for developing high-performance cloud-native servicesStrong database optimization skills and experience designing high-availability solutionsFamiliarity with AWS, DockerKubernetes, observability tools, and CICD pipelinesStrong communication skills, able to effectively advocate technical concepts to both technical and non-technical audiences Target Compensation: A competitive base salary range from $130,047 - $190,736. This position is eligible for an annual variable cash bonus, between 7.5 - 15%. Final compensation within the range is influenced by many factors including role-specific skills, depth and experience level, industry background, relevant education and certifications. Candidates who reside in the following major metropolitan areas may be eligible for a premium on top of the posted range based on their specific zone: San Francisco, Seattle, Boston, New York City, Los Angeles and San Diego.
