The Underwriter is responsible for managing an underwriting territory, including all new and renewal business, in compliance with Underwriting Guidelines and the Underwriter's individual Letter of Authority. Has knowledge of productsservices, marketing strategies and an understanding of the needs, issues and operations of the legal profession. Helps achieve MLM's profitgrowth goals through collaboration with other functional departments.Location: Minneapolis, MN, PA or VA preferred but will consider other locations for the right candidate. Hybrid schedule based on location and team needsPrimary Duties and ResponsibilitiesAssess new and renewal business using the online application processEvaluate applications to determine acceptability, pricing and coverage proposals within established underwriting guidelinesCommunicate decisions to applicants verbally and in writing while providing clear explanations and reasons for approval or denialUnderstand and articulate policy coverage terms, conditions and exclusionsProvide timely service according to the established service standardsWork collaboratively with the assigned Regional Sales Directors and Account Managers, leveraging business knowledge to propose solutions in a dynamic work environmentEffectively work with Director of Underwriting Administration to facilitate the development of Underwriting System changes and corresponding changes to procedures QualificationsBachelor's degree in finance, business, economics or related field preferredIn lieu of Bachelor's degree, an associate degree plus relevant experienceThree or more years of related financial or underwriting experience, preferably in a specialty malpractice line of business. in this area.CPCU andor RPLU strongly preferredKnowledge of insurance productscoverage, underwriting, pricing, risk selection, market segments and marketplace; insurance finance and actuarial concepts; loss controlrisk engineering; marketing techniques, regulatory environment and reinsurance preferredExceptional analytical skillsAdvanced written and verbal communication skillsIntermediate skills in MS Office product suiteAbility to work effectively independently and in a team environmentThis posting is a summary of the typical functions of the job, not a comprehensive list of all job responsibilities.Benefits:MLM offers a rich comprehensive benefits package.
