Pierce Transit is an independent municipal organization, dedicated to fulfilling the mission of improving people's quality of life by providing safe, reliable, innovative, and useful transportation services that are locally based and regionally connected. We are currently recruiting for an ADA Coordinator to serve as the subject matter expert and to coordinate across the agency on ADA best practices including the compliance and application of ADA Title II requirements. In this role, you will collaborate with agency and community partners, leading initiatives, and ensuring access for people with disabilities to advance the agencies mission. Reporting to the Equity and Engagement Manager, the ADA Coordinator collaborates with agency departments to ensure ADA compliance with 1990 American with Disabilities Act and Sections 504 and 508 of the Rehabilitation Act of 1973. . The ideal candidate for this opportunity will be an effective communicator with experience working across different disciplines in ADA compliance, planning, training, project management and program implementation of ADA best practice. PAID LEAVE: Full-time Pierce Transit employees receive 11 paid holidays, 2 personal paid holidays, 6 days of major sick leave, and 22 days of paid time off (PTO) per year. Knowledge and experience with 1990 American with Disabilities Act (ADA) policies, 1964 Civil Rights including Title VI language access requirements for transit or similar government agencies. Research, analyze, evaluate, and give expert advice to executive management, internal departments and outside organizations regarding highly complex ADA compliance issues that are sensitive in nature and impact agency-wide programs and policies. Experience implementing best practices for developing and delivering accessible services for multi-lingual populations and individuals with disabilities. Support efforts to ensure that all Pierce Transit programs, services and activities are accessible to people with disabilities, barrier free, and in compliance with federal and state laws requiring equal accessibility to all users. This may require in field assessments, site visits; meeting attendance;and contact with community and advocacy groups; city, county, and public transit officials. Experience in coordinating the application of ADA best practice in policies, projects, and services including experience with planning, performance tracking, preparing, and executing work plans, and implementing strategies within set deadlines. Ability to listen and communicate clearly, effectively, and compassionately, both verbally and in writing, with experience translating complex policies into accessible communications preferred. Investigate complaints alleging disability discrimination and ADA non-compliance by Pierce Transit in programs and services. Has direct experience and training in applying the ADA, Section 504 and 508 related federal, state, and local accessibility laws is critical. Required: Bachelor's degree in business administration, public administration, planning, transportation, human services, disability, rehabilitation services or a related field Five (5) years of experience of professional level in public administration, program planning, or human resource experience related to area of assignment. Three (3) to five (5) years' of experience conducting research and analyzing policies, laws, rules, and regulations, or a comparable combination of graduate experience. Three (3) to five (5) years' experience working in compliance, service delivery in transportation agency, or complex government or non-profit organizations in operations, ADA accessibility and compliance programs, disability advocacy or community outreach, Three (3) years' experience in managing projects, implementing policies, and coordination across multiple departments or divisions in agency enterprise. Direct experience and training in applying the ADA, Section 504 and related federal, state, and local accessibility laws is critical. Experience may be substituted for education on a year for year basis. Desired: Ability to interpret and explain required federal ADA requirements. Ability to develop policy and implement plans to effectuate federal regulations. Capacity to analyze documents and reports. Familiarity with Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) and accessible technologies Familiarity with major federal and state civil rights laws and regulations as amended, including, but not limited to: the Americans with Disabilities Act of 1990; the Civil Rights Act of 1964, Title VI and Title VII; the Age Discrimination in Employment Act of 1967 (ADEA); and RCW 49.60, the Washington Law Against Discrimination (WLAD). Lived experience with or working with disability community. Multi-lingual including American Sign Language Certified Access Specialist Public sector experience desired.
