The Director of Engineering has overall technical responsibility for all product and manufacturing engineering, of products produced and supported from both the Huntsville and Spokane production sites. Leads technical engineering teams with responsibility for the full life cycle (development through fielded support) for military soft walled frame shelter systems, Airbeam technology shelter systems, rigid wall shelter systems, military trailers, environmental and power trailers, command and control products, and fabric accessories. This position offers hands-on, highly visible, and engaging opportunity working closely with Product Lifecycle Management staff, forward deployed field support, production, quality, manufacturing engineering and advanced design organizations. Seeking a dynamic, empowered and visionary leader to drive the technical performance to the next level.Primary DutiesDrives execution of the engineering team who develops, designs, analyzes, tests, and supports the manufacture and shipment of soft wall shelters, rigid wall shelters trailers and power generation systemsProvides support for sales and business development for basis of estimate (BOE) on both direct and program bids, proposals, and programsResponsible for the execution of the technical strategy, product cost reduction, process improvements and other initiatives to streamline and improve the businessWorks effectively with our internal customers (Sales, Product Line Management, Marketing, Manufacturing, Quality and Supply Chain) to maximize value-add and support the development, sale and manufacturing of productsProactively drives leadership sponsored initiatives and motivates others in doing soDefines, documents and executes best practices across engineeringOwns configuration control including the engineering change (EC) and configuration change board (CCB) processesImplements the engineering scorecard process and tool to drive team performance.Collaborates and aligns the team to set objectives to support overall company strategyManages engineering resources, acquires resources, deploys staffing and collaborates with other company sites to effectively and efficiently prioritize, assign and execute engineering technical tasking to meet business demands across the business.Develops estimates, supports proposals and manages requirements through clearly defined and well executed statements-of-workSecondary DutiesResponsible for collaborating with other support functions such as HR, Legal, and Finance to ensure effective use of resources and manage prioritiesOversees the performance review process for teamOptimizes non-recurring engineering estimatesProvides managers and principal engineers guidance to achieve their goalsPromotes a healthy culture by displaying commitment to safety, emotional resilience, positivity, helpfulness, respect, strong work ethic and support of company policiesEffectively communicates metrics, program statuses and initiativesPrepare, defend and drive the annual operating plan (AOP) budget for site engineeringYears of Experience:10+ years experience including technical management experience requiredLevel of EducationBS Engineering from accredited school required; MS Engineering, PE License or MBA preferredQualificationsTo perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty and responsibility listed above satisfactorily.
