Staff Equipment EngineerRemote: 25% travelContribute to the development and implementation of a first of its kind battery material manufacturing facility. Responsibilities for the conceptual design, detailed engineering, construction, and commissioning support for equipment and piping systems within a novel manufacturing unit, ensuring it meets safety requirements, performance specifications, and cost targets.Responsibilities and DutiesDesign, specify, and oversee fabrication for novel equipment and piping systems to support the completion and future scaling of a battery materials manufacturing facility.Work through all project phases, including early design scoping, basic engineering, detailed engineering, procurement, approvals, construction, and commissioning.Work closely with the Process Engineering, Controls and Electrical, Supply Chain, Operations, and Maintenance teams to specify, procure, install, and commission equipment and piping systems within key process and balance of plant units.Engage with internal teams, external engineering and construction partners, and vendors to support the design, construction and commissioning activities.Prepare technical specifications for equipment, materials, and constructionassembly of equipment and piping systems.Review vendor drawings and submittals to ensure compliance with governing codes (e.g., ASME, API, NPFA, OSHA) and technical specifications.Provide technical support and resolve technical RFIs during construction and commissioning activities.RequirementsBS or MS in Mechanical Engineering.10+ years of engineering experience in related industries with high temperature solids handling processes and equipment.Experience working with equipment, piping systems, and valves within a complex manufacturing unit that handles high temperature gases and the transfer of solid materials.Strong understanding of thermodynamics, fluid mechanics, heat transfer, and materials science.Experience in the mechanical design, fabrication, and quality assurance of rotating equipment (pumps, compressors), static equipment (heat exchangers, vessels, piping), and solids material handling systems.Proficiency in interpreting and implementing requirements per governing codes as it relates to the design, specification, fabrication, and repair of equipment and piping systems (e.g., ASME, API, NFPA, OSHA).Experience managing engineering contractors with complex scope.Ability to create requisition packages and vendor specifications and lead the bid processExperience in construction activities associated with a large plant turnaround, new unit construction, andor plant bring-up.Ability to read and develop P&IDs, piping isometrics, and other relevant engineering drawings.Proficiency in interpreting results from a pipe stress analysis completed using relevant software (e.g., CAESAR II, AutoPIPE).Proficiency in interpreting results from both steady-state and transient thermal models on equipment completed using relevant software (e.g., ANSYS, COMSOL). Or other type of FEA expProficiency in interpreting results from FEA simulations and fatigue life assessments on equipment and piping systems following applicable governing ASME and API codes for boiler and pressure vesselsAbility to travel up to 25% travel to and from build sites and contractors' design officesPreferred QualificationsExperience developing and executing both steady-state and transient thermal models on equipment using relevant software (e.g., ANSYS, COMSOL).Experience conducting FEA simulations and executing fatigue life assessments on equipment and piping systems following applicable governing ASME and API codes.Experience modeling with 3D CAD software (e.g. SolidWorks).Experience working in a cross-functional discipline (e.g. Controls, Electrical, CivilStructural, Process Design)
